Place is a dive list as follows
No hot water.
Poor wifi reception.
Breakfast was two rolls in a basket mind you for two people.
Dirty bathroom black mould growing on the bath mat.
Dirty sheets.
No heating, which is a nightmare as it's very cold.
Staff claim to be English speaking, yet don't understand a word.
Family lives in hotel rooms.
Rude staff.
Limit on showers even though there isn't any hot water to limit we were told 5min showers.

Place is a nightmare!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

“Nice 2 star hotel, but avoid in winter!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

I had a pleasant stay for 2 nights, in spite of previous bad reports, I found beds comfortable, room clean, no noise to disturb my sleep, wi-fi worked, breakfast adequate and staff & owner very helpful. My big complaint was lack of heating throughout the hotel in winter months, and I froze at night!! There was also no hot water in the bathroom handbasin. I refused to take a shower due to the cold so cannot comment.

“I wish I could give this place zero stars”

The only way you end up staying at this hostel is to be conned into it by the scam artist who works the copa cabana - Puno bus. Don't listen to him. He stole our bus tickets, charged us extra, outright lied to us about amenities and location. Please, please don't stay there.

“The worst place on Earth”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

If you stay in this hotel, chances are you stayed there because the scam-artist of a bus driver conned you into it.

DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. The hostel may look nice at first glance, but the dude will SCREW YOU OVER. There is no hot water, no nearby restaurants, hidden costs left and right, the sheets are stained (probably from people just pooping out of frustration), and he'll probably also try to con you into getting a tour to the floating islands, which will be overpriced and underwhelming.

We had already bought bus tickets on a nice bus, and this scam artist took them and reissued us vouchers for a TERRIBLE LOCAL BUS with no bathroom and pooping babies for 10 hours to cusco. He is a scoundrel through and through.

May the America Inn be razed to the ground. It gives a bad name to Peru and America. If I ever go back, it will be to poop all over the lobby and then light it on fire.

“WORST PLACE I'VE EVER STAYED”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

Notice how the only reviews on this website are from people who were solicited into the hotel by the guy running it? He literally lurks on buses from Copacabana to Puno and lures you into staying at his hotel. Then he sends you on a crappy, overpriced tour, and in our case, stole our bus tickets and rebooked us on a terrible bus to Cusco that took 3 hours more and ruined our day. There's no internet, despite the fact that he promised us on the bus that there would be -- when we got there he told us we could go next door to a cafe and pay for internet -- and there was no hot water. No one should ever stay there. And to be honest, I don't think anyone does unless they're tricked into it by the dude who snatches them on the bus.
