Our two night stay at Togo B&B was toward the end of our two week honeymoon in Panama, and one might think we were a little tired of being tourists and living out of backpacks... maybe before we arrived, we were a bit. But upon setting foot on the Togo property, we felt immediately both relaxed and spoiled, and not a little out of our league, just for being there. The back garden is totally amazing, thought out to the most minute detail, and is really a hidden paradise. At night, the sound of ripe mangos dropping from the trees, cicadas, and toads trying to mate is pretty much the norm. And the room we stayed in (ground floor of the main house) was also awesome - I took pictures of all the decor details thinking maybe someday I would be able to replicate (not likely but here's to aspirational goals). The beach, while not private (none in Panama are private) was 2 minutes away, clean and beautiful, and both days we went, we were the only ones camped there. But what really made this stop our favorite, aside from the luxury comforts and sense of peace, were Antonio, his pets, and his staff. You can't bottle or replicate this quality - it's all about personality and charm, and Antonio has it to spare. In our two nights at Togo (and as the only guests), we had the chance to sit and talk with him several times about art, his home, and Panama, as easily as with an old friend. He is a great storyteller and a very generous and welcoming host. We also felt completely pampered by Dorales and Lucidio, from the welcome cocktail and the AMAZING breakfasts and lunch Dorales prepared for us, to Lucidio's assistance in doing anything we needed before we thought to ask, and his gardening talents. Honestly, I wish I had the time and money to book a week, a month, at Togo every summer. Maybe someday I will. Antonio, thank you! Look us up if you ever come back to NYC! S&J
