I desperately needed a room and a friendly taxi driver informed me that a room was available at Les Lataniers in Flic en Flac, for a reasonable price.
I dídn´t have much choice so I went there and was very positively surprised. The residence, a large complex is built around a large pool with three-level houses all around (see pic). The "room" I got was an apartment with three decent sized bedrooms (2 double beds, 1 single), fully equipped kitchen w/microwave, large fridge, electric kettle, 2 bathrooms/showers, washing machine, dining room and living room w/TV and DVD. Two balconies, one bigger overlooking the pool and houses, one in the back with a view of the surroundings. All very nice, clean, comfortable and almost felt like a real "home". The Latanier complex is gated with 24 hour security and feels very safe. The guests are mainly families with children/teenagers, from India and Europe, and some Mauritians as well.
Location is in the middle of a residential area, with some nice villas / apartments/complexes around, and quite a few construction sites. It feels a bit remote when you get there, especially if late as the streets are dark and you need to drive around a bit, but actually the location is very convenient with 5-10 minutes walk to the very good and large Flic en Flac public beach which is very popular with both tourists and locals of all ages, and has a very relaxed feeling. The walk to "downtown" Flic en Flac is not long either, in 10 minutes you get to the casino/supermarket and another 10 mins in the same direction to the bank/ shopping area. There are plenty of restaurants around, and the supermarket has a good selection of food & drinks if you want to make use of the kitchen facilities at Lataniers.
There is hardly anything to complain about, but if I have to find some things it would be the so-called "gym", lack of internet access (no wi-fi???) and the dark streets in the area. Nothing that would keep me from returning any time!
