“Beautiful place, relaxing time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

This place was really great, not too bad for the price, and the food was SO good too.

This place is for relaxing only.. There is nothing else to do there, which is all we wanted to do. The beach is really nice, beautiful sunsets, nice ocean to swim in, and beautiful rooms.

The only thing: There were not enough beach chairs and cushions the first day were were there, and there were only 6 people at the lodge. If the lodge was fully booked, I have no idea what they would do. Seeing as the beach is the only thing to do there, they should really make sure to accommodate all the people staying.

“real paradise”

I stayed here for 2 nights. I really really love this place!

Especially, location is excellent! 2 hours car trip from Kota Kinabalu is needed, but worth it. The beach in front of the lodge is only for us! Except for local kids, nobody was there. You can see the long long beautiful beach. I loved it. Playing in the beach, reading under the trees, sometimes doing my homework brought from my country... I really relaxed and enjoyed my holiday.

We stayed at dormitory room. It was clean, but simple facilities. So if you want to stay at luxury 'hotel', this lodge is not for you. If you want calm holidays with basic room, this lodge is for you :)

You can eat 3 meals here. It was delicious. You can drink a cup of tea all day by yourself. Staffs were friendly and really kind!
There were some local kids playing at the beach, so I talked and played with them. They were really cute and friendly!

I really really love this lodge. I didn't want to go back home, wanted to stay more. I want to stay there again as soon as possible!! I will absolutely visit there again. Highly recommend!! ;)

“Dream getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Perfect beach which stretches for miles with only you on it or a few village children learning how to ride a bike. Steep steps up to the lodge which could be a problem for people with walking disabilities. Rooms are quite rustic but comfortable. The soporific sound of crashing waves 50 metres from your room will drift you off to sleep. The food in the restaurant is fresh, beautifully presented but no selection. You will not go hungry. Staff are warm, curtious and very helpful. The seclusion will certainly relax you.
On the downside, the rooms could do with a make-over just to brighten up the place and provide more modern bedding, towels and comfortable mattresses. Take repellent as sand flies on the beach are vicious.
Overall this is a find. Expect little and experience a lot. Total castaway escape.

“This is paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2011

We stayed there 4 nights and simply loved it!
The food was the best we had in Malaysia and staff was great. The beach is clean and very beautiful. Only the mattress in the room wasn´t very comfy, everything else is simply perfect. We were picked up at our hostel in KK and brought there. During two days we were the only guests - very relaxing :-).
Highly recommended!

“Delicious food. Secluded place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

Cleanliness:
I had never stayed in a place where I couldn't find a spot / stain / mark on the bedsheet and pillow cases. I have stayed in 5-star hotels but I could still find stains on their bedsheet. Tempurung is definitely very clean.

Location:
Very secluded and very very quiet. The only thing you can hear is the sound of the waves. That's why I like it so much.

The time I went there was around the national day of Malaysia. On the national day, since it was a holiday, a huge family arrived. That was a bit noisy but after they left, it went back to its normal tranquil state.

So my recommendation is avoid their public holidays.

Food:
Absolutely delicious. Not exaggerating. They provide 3 meals a day. My taste buds were very satisfied.

Remeber to bring insect repellent with you cos the mosquitos are really hungry. You don't want to become the food of mosquitos.

Value:
Expensive for a solo traveller. But if you are travelling with someone else, of course, the rates will be cheaper.

Service:
In general, good. Staff are very friendly.

But:
I asked them to arrange a snorkelling tour for me before I checked into their Lodge. That was a mess. I don't know what tour company the Lodge has contract with but the guy who was supposed to come and pick me up from my hotel in KK forgot to pick me up. I had to call the Lodge.

When I arrived at the Island where I did snorkelling (can't remember the name of that Island), the staff at the entrance asked me to pay for the entrance fee. But I was told by the Lodge that the tour fee I had already paid in advance included all these entrance fees. The guide from the tour company left me alone at the entrance. He didn't say anything for me so in the end, I had to pay for the entrance fee.

When I went back to the pier after my snorkelling trip, I couldn't find anyone who would take me back to my hotel. I was also informed that someone would pick me up. I then talked to a guy at the ticket booth and he arranged a taxi for me and he paid for that.

I complained to the owner of the Lodge. I got a refund of the entrance fee from them. But it's not a matter of $, it's the overall arrangement that I wasn't happy with.

So my recommendation is, think before you ask them to arrange this kind of tour for you.

The Proboscis Monkey trip arranged by them was not too bad. I think it was probably because I complained too much about my snorkelling trip. :-P

Sleep Quality:
In general, it's good, except for the mosquitos...

Others:
The owner of Tempurung Seaside Lodge is working on some community project in the village - teaching kids English. I taught the children some simple English. The children were very attentive.

The village nearby is also worth a visit. Mini, the staff of the Lodge, took me to visit the village, house from house after I taught the kids English. Just happened that the villagers were preparing for an Islamic festival so I got to see that. And I met a Malaysian singer in the village. That was a surprise for me.

There is nothing much you can do there. They have kayaks, but the sea is too rough for that.
They have chess, many books (in English and some other European languages), magazines in the dining room. Most of the travellers including me have our own books. I am sure you can finish reading one very quickly.

It's a place for absolute relaxation.
