“Delicious food. Secluded place.”
Cleanliness:
I had never stayed in a place where I couldn't find a spot / stain / mark on the bedsheet and pillow cases. I have stayed in 5-star hotels but I could still find stains on their bedsheet. Tempurung is definitely very clean.
Location:
Very secluded and very very quiet. The only thing you can hear is the sound of the waves. That's why I like it so much.
The time I went there was around the national day of Malaysia. On the national day, since it was a holiday, a huge family arrived. That was a bit noisy but after they left, it went back to its normal tranquil state.
So my recommendation is avoid their public holidays.
Food:
Absolutely delicious. Not exaggerating. They provide 3 meals a day. My taste buds were very satisfied.
Remeber to bring insect repellent with you cos the mosquitos are really hungry. You don't want to become the food of mosquitos.
Value:
Expensive for a solo traveller. But if you are travelling with someone else, of course, the rates will be cheaper.
Service:
In general, good. Staff are very friendly.
But:
I asked them to arrange a snorkelling tour for me before I checked into their Lodge. That was a mess. I don't know what tour company the Lodge has contract with but the guy who was supposed to come and pick me up from my hotel in KK forgot to pick me up. I had to call the Lodge.
When I arrived at the Island where I did snorkelling (can't remember the name of that Island), the staff at the entrance asked me to pay for the entrance fee. But I was told by the Lodge that the tour fee I had already paid in advance included all these entrance fees. The guide from the tour company left me alone at the entrance. He didn't say anything for me so in the end, I had to pay for the entrance fee.
When I went back to the pier after my snorkelling trip, I couldn't find anyone who would take me back to my hotel. I was also informed that someone would pick me up. I then talked to a guy at the ticket booth and he arranged a taxi for me and he paid for that.
I complained to the owner of the Lodge. I got a refund of the entrance fee from them. But it's not a matter of $, it's the overall arrangement that I wasn't happy with.
So my recommendation is, think before you ask them to arrange this kind of tour for you.
The Proboscis Monkey trip arranged by them was not too bad. I think it was probably because I complained too much about my snorkelling trip. :-P
Sleep Quality:
In general, it's good, except for the mosquitos...
Others:
The owner of Tempurung Seaside Lodge is working on some community project in the village - teaching kids English. I taught the children some simple English. The children were very attentive.
The village nearby is also worth a visit. Mini, the staff of the Lodge, took me to visit the village, house from house after I taught the kids English. Just happened that the villagers were preparing for an Islamic festival so I got to see that. And I met a Malaysian singer in the village. That was a surprise for me.
There is nothing much you can do there. They have kayaks, but the sea is too rough for that.
They have chess, many books (in English and some other European languages), magazines in the dining room. Most of the travellers including me have our own books. I am sure you can finish reading one very quickly.
It's a place for absolute relaxation.
