“A little below expectations.”

This hotel is in a great location within easy reach of Kota Kinabalu. The pool and facilities are really good. It's all showing its age a bit though and is looking tired. The sunbeds around the pool are made of timber and are falling apart. The boardwalk between the pool and the ocean is starting to rot. The lift has not been working for the last four days. Our friends room safe was not working on arrival and it took six days to get it fixed. We visited the business centre on three occasions and each time it was closed despite our visit being within the advertised opening time.
Just lots of annoying things that leave a question mark against a return visit. The staff it must be said are really friendly and we enjoyed our stay. But just too many negatives.

“Pacific Sutera - Well-appointed resort for the family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We had been looking forward to staying here since we were last in KK (my wife's home town) 8 years ago. We had a large room with a king bed and an extra single (which took a few reminders to reception before it arrived). Compared to other toilets we've used (including the beloved squat), the efficient toilet was a pleasure to use. Unfortunately we got a tummy bug while here and could not enjoy our 5-night stay as much as we would have liked. Cafe Boleh was the most frequented place with very friendly staff. The Silk Garden restaurant was very nice, but our stomachs were not in the right frame of mind to truly savor it's delicacies - maybe next time. (tip: with yum cha you must finish all that is ordered. The noodle dishes, on the same list as the dim sum, is actually the large serves and not small dishes I expected!) It was great to be able to use the Magellan facilities too. The kids club was pretty basic and our 5-year-old lost interest in a few minutes, but for younger kids may be ok. The pool had a nice shallow area for the kids (there is a better looking one at Magellan that we did not get to try). We recommend Sutera to families and couples alike.

Room Tip: Non-smokers must specify non-smoking floor

“Top Malaysian Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This hotel is in a great location for doing so many activities. We stayed 11 nights at the Magellan Sutera and had a fantastic vacation. You can play golf day or night, because they have night lights. Go visit the Orangutans or the Proboscis monkeys. Swim in the lovely temperature South China Sea. Take a fun train tour. Or, just relax and enjoy the pools, Mandera Spa, and beach.

Room Tip: We stayed on the Concierge Level rooms which were bigger and included a better view of the Sea.

“Excellent Hotel for Relaxation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Just went there for our 2nd honeymoon. Front desk was excellent, it took less than 5 minutes to check in. Room was fabulous, and the bed was awesome. The view at the pool is superb, it is facing the beach and islands. The beach was clear and you can watch the sunset there or at the pool and the coffee house in Magellan. Location is good, just 10 minutes from the town centre / airport. Shuttle bus is provided at an hour interval, priced at RM3, inclusive of return. Housekeeping service was quick, in-room dining also good. I had fish and chips and the tartar sauce was delicious. Food was delivered less than 15 minutes after our order.

I guess the management has taken action regarding the coffee house based on complaints that has been made by other review because we didnt face any problem as mentioned by those reviewers. We were ushered to seats and orders arrived not too long after that. Juices were good and refreshing. Had lunch at Silk Garden (chinese food), and we enjoyed it. The price was worth the quality of the lunch.

Though you see so many people at the lobby and at the coffee house during breakfast, but amazingly, when you are at the restaurant or inside the room, it feels very quite and peaceful. The hotel had so many facilities, and i simply love our evening walk at the marina. My only complaint was the breakfast buffet. It was the same menu everyday. But, it is very minor and did not really affect our stay there. I would definitely go back if i happen to be in KK again.

“Loved The Pacific Sutera”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We recently stayed at the Pacific Sutera for 8 days we were upgraded to the Pacific Club rooms on the 12th floor. The rooms are quite spacious with a balcony overlooking the golf course. The rooms are very comfortable with a spacious bathroom. Breafkast we found a okay this room could do with a facelift. The gardens around the pool are beautiful and the pool is very big with a magnificent view of the Tarp Islands. Staying at any of the Sutera Hotels allows you to use any of the pools and dine at any of the restaurants and charge it back to your room. We ate twice at the Magellan once at Alfresco we really enjoyed this meal and also once at the Five Sails for Chinese New Year this was very huge buffet and yummy food. We just loved the location of this hotel they have a shuttle bus which take you onto town every hour for 3rm round trip very cheap. The staff were very warm and especially the conceirge Sabri who took care of any thing we needed.

Room Tip: Great Location. gorgeous sunsets from the pool
