We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. It takes quite a while to get from the actual entrance to reach the lobby, there is a golf course; the hotel is surrounded by some lovely scenery … When we arrived at the lobby we were most impressed by the view from the waiting area opening up onto the gardens leading out to the beach and sea, truly beautiful view. We were offered welcome drink and some refreshing towels which were very much needed after such long journey. The receptionist gave us thorough details about the hotel and led us to our room – Deluxe Seaview. We stayed on the 5th floor. We loved the open corridors connecting the buildings and leading to the rooms, here you can admire the jungle backdrop, many exotic flowers and trees, listen to the various birds’ songs, not mentioning the amount of geckos that greet you on the way - just lovely. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with large balcony where we enjoyed fantastic views of the sea and gardens. The room is quite luxurious but seemed a little dated and some wear and tear is visible especially the bathroom needs some refurbishment. We were offered an upgrade to their Ocean Wing but for extra £120 per night this seemed so over the top that we politely declined. Even with the bath tabs on the balcony it doesn’t represent value for money in my opinion. However the area with private pool has a very luxurious feel.
We opted for HB, prior to arriving at the hotel we were under the impression that we’ll be able to eat only in the ‘communal’ restaurant. But we were informed on our arrival that actually you can eat in any of their restaurants. 100MYR per person is counted towards your dinner. Since the prices are almost the same as their main buffet restaurant this was very convenient and we tried almost all of them. We particularly enjoyed the ‘Singapore market stalls’ (Tepi Laut) restaurant. Contrary to other reviews we were really underwhelmed by the Indian restaurant we heard so much about, we love Indian food and have it regularly but this was quite bland, salty and generally not satisfactory perhaps we were just unlucky in our choices … the buffet was sufficient if a little repetitive at times, breakfasts were very good. We really wanted to try the Coast restaurant but as we slipped into the holiday mode, we didn’t go there in the end, we simply couldn’t be bothered to dress up! :o)
One afternoon we booked to visit the hotel’s orang-utan’s sanctuary; the only time available was 2pm so it was very hot and humid. Currently they take care of 5 babies. They all appeared to be looking very healthy and indeed very cheeky when one of them decided it would be so much fun if it peed and pooped all over the visitors! The lucky couple who got the misfortune to stand right below the tree where the baby orang-utan did his business later discovered that this particular orang-utan was the one they had adopted before the visit – it must be destiny! ;o)… We were able to enjoy the orang-utans for around one hour; they are quite close so good opportunity for some close up photography. Luckily not many people singed up for this time slot as it really was so hot. Thank god we thought of taking the hotel’s hand towels in order to refresh ourselves.
