This hotel has it all and you will not be disappointed. The best place to stay in KK

We spent a week at the resort in mid January and I have to say overall it was a very pleasant stay, the staff were very attentive, the food top class and plenty of it with a very good selection in the buffet restaurant and found the prices very reasonable as we're the drinks. The pool is amazing and there always seemed to be plenty of sunbirds vacant. The beach area is very nice if a little on the small side. The overall atmosphere of the place was very good. The bad points however were that we were promised a mountain view room and got a view of the tennis courts but as they were full there were no more rooms to relocate to until the next day and so we stayed put and to be honest it worked out quite well cos we were on the ground floor so didn't have to put up with stairs or a lift and we were straight out of the door and over to the pool and the beach! My biggest problem was the amount of people there for a conference each day and eating in the main restaurant. It was like a cattle market and you couldn't get anywhere near the food. They really should have seperated dining facilities for the conference guests. I'm not sure I would go back to Tanjung Aru, I would probably try the sister resort, Rasa Ria if I ever went back to Borneo. We spent an afternoon at the Orangutang sanctuary there and it had a bigger beach and looked quite nice. Enjoyed my week at the Tanjung Aru though, plenty of R & R !

My wife & I stayed at the Tanjung Shangri-La for 11 nights in October 2011. We stayed there on the recommendation of our Travel Agent after considering the Shangri-La Rasa Ria, we're pleased we took her advice as the Rasa Ria was lovely (We went there to see the oranguatans) but to far out. We stayed in the Tanjung Wing with a great room overlooking the lawns with the ocean as the perfect backdrop. The breakfast was ample & varied, anybody who couldn't find something to their taste are very hard to please. We didn't have any meals at the Hotel Restaurants but did have room service once which was very average. Alcohol in the various hotel bars was far to expensive, but buying beer in the hotel shop & stocking the fridge was good value. As mentioned in previous reviews, the pool area is magnificent & despite the large number of guests, there was always a spot to relax / lounge around the pool area. If you're staying in Kota Kinabalu, you won't go wrong staying at the Tanjung Shangri La!

We visited there mid january and were blown away by everything they had to offer!. We went with two other families so in total there was 13 of us(6 adults, 7 children). At check-in we had a bit of trouble, but from then on everything was amazing!

The first day we were there we were amazed by the buffet breakfast and the amount of food that was on offer. all the staff were always lovley there. The kids also took part in a Super slid racer run by the guys from the lesuire center. They loved it and had great fun.
We visited Coco Jo's a fair few times thoughout the week for both lunch and dinner, this was also great and in a lovley spot.
We took a day trip to the island run by Borneo dream which was amazing to see and would recomend it to anyone!
It was my 16th birthday while i was there and we booked the deck with lounges on the beach at sunset. We were amazed with all the food they had planned for us. Unware but there was also a culture show on this night. We were blown away by the dances and fire eaters. they got the kids up to have a go too which was good.
During that day i had two very good people, Alfred and Noel, come and sing happy birthday to me on stilts which was awesome!

They have many activites avaliable for the whole family to enjoy which is great!

The resort in all is in a great spot and they have everything on offer that you dont have to leave the resort at all! They staff always knew were the kids were so it was worry free for the adults too. They take the time to get to know you. Everyone there always greets you and have a smile on there face.
A very special mention to Alfred, Noel, Sufrie and Jonathan from the pool area. They were great and we became very good friends by the end of the trip.
Jeffery and Charlie were also great people from Coco Jo's and the sunset bar.

Overall a great trip away and would recomened it to any one who ask!!
