After a night at the North Borneo Cabin, we moved to the Stay-In Lodge since it was cheaper and it seemed to have more amenities. We stayed for 3 nights and got it for 50 ringgits a night but of course had to pay in full up front. The rooms looked ok so we went for it. The first night we were in a room on the same floor as the reception. It was very noisy and we constantly smelled cigarette smoke from the lobby. We moved the next day but of course all they had available was up on the fourth floor - usually I am not opposed to exercise but it was just so hot that you felt four flights of stairs for sure. The second room had a double bed and a bunk bed but the bed in each room was ok.
There was free internet but no breakfast (which was fine because we were tired of toast anyways). We got our laundry done there and lots of items came back dirty - seemed like the clothesline had dust on it because all the items were dark clothes with dusty lines on them. We ended up re-washing those pieces ourselves. I would recommend finding another place if you have laundry.
Everywhere in the hotel seemed to stink of cigarette smoke. Our first room had old butts sitting in the window sill! The room on the fourth floor was quieter since it didn't have a window facing the street and there weren't as many people talking loudly right beside it. The air-conditioning was just ok because you only get it for 12 hours and even then they would turn it off on us too early.
When we checked in there was a very friendly manager there but he must have had the next few days off because we only saw him one more time. The other staff weren't as helpful. We were happy to be leaving when we checked out.
