The Imperial International Hotel is truly an odd hotel! We stated there in two rooms, for 5 nights in early August 2010. Its located in the heart of the city, just one block off the waterfront, surrounded by eating/shopping options and just a short walk from all the markets that line the waterfront. But KK is pretty small, so just about any hotel within the city is convenient to the waterfront activities. The hotel rooms which are large, recently received a facelift, but not a very successful one! The bathrooms are equipped with new toilets, sinks and shower heads, but the walls and counters are chipped, stained and patched. I had daily sightings of many small ants a problem the management is very aware of as there was a sign in the lobby regarding the next exterminator date! (at least they are doing something about their bugs!) The bedroom has these wild pink/red chairs (my nephew located a small gecko on his chair!) and a flat screen TV but the walls, counter areas and desk were also chipped and in poor condition. There is plenty of free bottle water, a coffee maker and bathroom amenities/soap etc. Breakfast was included and we found it a little rough until we located in another room the omelet/egg chief. No matter what time we arrived to breakfast, the food trays seemed to be empty, not that we would have eaten several of the items, but there was always plenty of bread, noodles and rice so we certainly didn’t starve! There are so many new small boutique hotels in the city that if I visited again, I would choose one of them. This is a pretty “tired” hotel and their rooms are not accurately reflected on their web site, but there were certainly no major problems and we didn’t spend much time in the hotel.
