“Convenient and a good base for sightseeing or shopping.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

Right smack in the center of town within walking distance of everything interesting in town.

Room was spacious, good, clean and comfortable. I dozed off surfing with the wifi. No cockroaches as mentioned in previous review.

En suite was modern and spacious but the water from the shower will wet the whole floor as there was no barrier in the open shower except for a full height glass between shower and basin.

Room comes with iron, ironing board and electronic safe in a small wardrobe. There's also a LCD tv and minibar. Got a free 15 minutes free fish spa in next block.

Breakfast variety is good but could be replenished at a greater speed.

Reception is cold and seems not to understand or speak much English.

“A hotel with cockroaches”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

I stayed here for three nights in January 2011. I have seen cockroaches in my second day here and there in the hotel, but the worst moment was when I found a cockroach crawling up on my arm while I was sleepng! The breakfast was horrible, on my third day I found that the pancake had full of mold inside - how come no one noticed it when the colour turned almost black?? My recommendation is, never stay here!

“Teribble and lousy services”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

I arrived at the lobby around 5pm and was given a room at level 8. The room was smelly and facing a conference lounge. That was at level 8.
I asked my room to be changed and the staff obliged and i was given a room at level 9. To my suprised, there were no towels provided in the bathroom and no iron.I called the housekeeping, and it took them more than 1 hour to give me towels, minus iron.
Later in the evening after finished my meeting, i came back to my room, thought of taking a nap before going for dinner.
I was shocked for my life, when i saw my room was flooded with water. I almost slipped and the leakeage was from their internal ceiling piping. The room carpet was completely wet.

I immediately asked for another room, as i can stay in that room anymore, which they obliged. Yet again, the new room given to me was without towel, toliet paper and other items....
It was a horrible experience 2 nights stay for me. Just imagine that i stayed in 3 different rooms during my 2 nights stay at this hotel.

“Good location, Odd hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

The Imperial International Hotel is truly an odd hotel! We stated there in two rooms, for 5 nights in early August 2010. Its located in the heart of the city, just one block off the waterfront, surrounded by eating/shopping options and just a short walk from all the markets that line the waterfront. But KK is pretty small, so just about any hotel within the city is convenient to the waterfront activities. The hotel rooms which are large, recently received a facelift, but not a very successful one! The bathrooms are equipped with new toilets, sinks and shower heads, but the walls and counters are chipped, stained and patched. I had daily sightings of many small ants a problem the management is very aware of as there was a sign in the lobby regarding the next exterminator date! (at least they are doing something about their bugs!) The bedroom has these wild pink/red chairs (my nephew located a small gecko on his chair!) and a flat screen TV but the walls, counter areas and desk were also chipped and in poor condition. There is plenty of free bottle water, a coffee maker and bathroom amenities/soap etc. Breakfast was included and we found it a little rough until we located in another room the omelet/egg chief. No matter what time we arrived to breakfast, the food trays seemed to be empty, not that we would have eaten several of the items, but there was always plenty of bread, noodles and rice so we certainly didn’t starve! There are so many new small boutique hotels in the city that if I visited again, I would choose one of them. This is a pretty “tired” hotel and their rooms are not accurately reflected on their web site, but there were certainly no major problems and we didn’t spend much time in the hotel.

“Good 3* Hotel - good value and excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

We stayed here one night as we had mixed up our dates and the hotel we had originally booked was fully booked. Our taxi driver recommended this hotel on the way from the airport. After a quick look at trip advisor on my blackberry I was not sure as some of the reviews and ratings weren’t great.

When we checked into our room we were really pleased. We had a deluxe room with part sea view part city view (£50). The room was very spacious with brilliant views (but note the cheapest rooms do not have vies and are inward facing). The room was spotless, very comfy beds and all the necessary facilities (Free Wi-Fi, TV, coffee making facilities, toiletries). We did have to ask for towels, but this was no problem.

The bathroom was quite big, and really nice to have a bath (unlike some Malaysian hotels). The staff at reception were very helpful and even came up to sort out our computer so we could connect to Wi-Fi.

The location is excellent, really close to the night markets and the waterfronts with lots of bars and restaurants, and also close to the main shopping area.

Breakfast was good, with a good selection – toast, eggs, fruit, cereal, French toast, as well as the usual Malaysian choices. It’s served on the rooftop restaurant with lovely views of the sea. I’m not sure what the review with “lousy breakfast” meant?

I would recommend this hotel, and think it is good value for money. I would rate it a good 3* hotel.
