Value for money. We got more than we bargained for. Was there for a friend's wedding reception and the room we got was huge and spacious. The view was quite awesome as we could peer right into the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. Staff were happy to help and courteous and they catered for the foodie in me. They had maps of the best eats in town and knew how to direct us there.

We stayed here over Chinese New Year 2012. The hotel is excellent. The staff are polite and very very helpful. The service is great. We had a lovely room overlooking the harbour. It was clean and serviced every day. The hotel is in a great position with good views from both back and front, front being the harbour and back being a sea view. There are some good restaurants nearby. We really enjoyed our stay here so much so we extended it for a couple more days

Poor road direction; had driven 3 rounds at the hotel to search parking entrance..

Stayed in deluxe upper floor..
Room is ok; spacious but dated decor/materials..
Shower/toilet is large..
Breakfast is so average..

Location wise is ok..
But: even better if one has its own transport for flexi mobility..

We were put in an adjoining room and the next door neighbours blared the TV at all hours of the morning and night (and we had a baby we had to get to sleep!). The next night we got the hotel to move us to a non-adjoining room which was much better (and bigger too). The rooms are not big and neither are the bathrooms (shower over the bath and the shower head is too low for taller people). The doors to the rooms don't keep any sound out and people are super noisy in the corridors at night. The first room we had looked out over the city and the second one looked over the swimming pool and out to sea but overall the views are not great. The breakfast offers a lot of variety but the coffee is instant and terrible. The swimming pool is quite cold so we only ever used the jacuzzi (which is like a luke-warm bath). The staff at reception are not that great and every time we phoned for something we would have to phone back 3 times to keep reminding them, and even so they still forgot to get what we asked for. There are lot so hotels too choose from in Penang so I would probably shop around and find one with a nicer room than this one.
The location is o.k., you can walk to the Red Garden food court or into the historic district for other great restaurants. There is a small park in front of the hotel which is good if you have kids.
