“Not to Be Missed - PIBR Deep Blue Sea Massage!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012
1
person found this review helpful

Booking: It was as easy as 1...2...3...online. You can opt to book through phone directly to the PIBR.

Ferry: Get on the ferry at the Lumut Ferry Terminal. All you have to do is to just wait in front of PIBR ticket counter and the friendly staff will assist you with your ferry tickets and even carry all your luggage. Try to board the ferry early so that you can get on the top deck seat to avoid sitting with too many people on the lower deck. The only set back was that some people will keep walking by the isle to get to the door opening to the open air deck at the back of the ferry. It is a smooth 45 minutes ferry ride which won't require you to take any of the sea sick medication. Once you reach the PIBR Jetty, a shuttle bus will be waiting for you to bring you to the hotel lobby in less than 5 minutes.

Check In: Checking in was fast for us...in the sense that we squeezed through people who were keen to get their free welcome drinks at the lobby entrance. While they were still busy drinking the free drinks, we were checked in and directed towards our room.

Room: Thank you, PIBR, for giving us the opportunity to stay at one of your four Sea Villas. As a nature lovers, we've enjoyed the rustic sea front spacious villa, which we called our home for those 4 days. We have got the option to shower in the bath tub but instead we enjoyed the shower in the open top room at the back of the villa and turned our bath tub to be the area where we hang our wet clothes.

Service: The staff are friendly and helpful. There was just one incident where no staff could do to help us. The villas area is a private area. It is opened only for the residents and no children is allowed in the area to preserve the privacy and serenity.

Spa: NOT TO BE MISSED! We ended up going for the Deep Blue Sea Massage twice! Thank you to Aina and Hamdan (aka Lola), who delivered the consistently great massages during out two massages each, two days in a row! Yes, make sure you book them up earlier since the spa is always full. I don't blame them if they have to turn your massage request down due to their packed schedule but the massage is really, really good.

Surrounding: It is very private at the villa area. It is a good place for anybody who are looking for a place to retreat, without the screaming kids and the loud adults. However, during our third day, on our way to the Hornbill Restaurant for a breakfast buffet, a peacock seemed to want to escape from the screaming kids and the careless adults/parents by coming to the villa garden. We bumped into some families who purposely disobeyed the "Private Area - For Villa Residents Only" sign. They ruthlessly opened up the villa's gate and started to flock in the villa garden, raping the villa residents' and also the peacock's privacy and serenity. I found a staff at the gate, helpless of stopping the bunch. I even talked to the staff at the Hornbill Restaurant, who appeared to offer no help to stop the 'stampede'.

Food/Restaurant: We seemed to enjoyed the variety of buffet for breakfast and dinner at the Hornbill Restaurant. We had great variety to choose from for those four days that we didn't even try the other food at another restaurant. The hotel should invest a little in getting those RESERVED tags to prevent the staff from getting the unnecessary scoldings from the lesser-educated guests who could not figure out that a crossed fork and spoon on the table setting indicates that the table is reserved for someone. And...we have seen a lot of food robbers from the buffet tables. We have once queued up for some breakfast pancakes but the girl in front of us seemed has been told to scoop up all the pancakes from the serving tray into her parents bags. The guests must have just enough money to pay for the hotel room but are too incapable to buy lunches!

Activities: Most activities requires a minimum of four persons. So for couples like us, we were left with spa endeavor, cycling, jet ski and night fun fishing. For any born-to-cast-live-to-fish people, the 90 minutes Night Fun Fishing by the beach may not be really fun.

All in all we enjoyed our 4D3N retreat in PIBR. We originally have booked a 3D2N package but ended up extending our stay for another day. We might be back, hoping the hotel can impose a much better crowd control...from the privacy rapers and the food thieves. :D

Room Tip: Sea Villa 8012 - largest balcony!

“Excellent beach, excellent service..old hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Just came back from Pangkor today. Went there for a weekend getaway with my 3 kids. The hotel was fully booked so we had to stay at the garden wing. We checked in at the Lumut jetty at 2 pm. It was hassle free and it was such a relief that they have a separate lane / booth for the guests of this hotel so we don't have to queue with the crowd !! (And the crowd was huge due to the long weekend ! ) We also board the ferry on the other side of the jetty and does not have to queue with the rest of the crowd and the ferry's for guests of the hotel and another resort only. We left our / checked in our bags at the counter in Lumut and they sent them to our room later at the hotel. When we arrived at the hotel jetty in Pangkor, we boarded a shuttle to the hotel and the check in was also very fast. I was not expecting much from the hotel but was really pleasantly surprised to see the beach .. it was beautiful and since it was a private beach, the were only a few hotel guests there and my family had so much fun. The sunset there is amazing. There were 2 pool areas, one at the pacific wing and another in front of the hornbill feeding area. My sons loved that pool! I could not find fault with the service at the hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. As with most hotels in Malaysia, some do seem to be extra nice to the "Mat Salleh" or caucasian tourists but they were nice enough to me and I've seen it happening even in the most expensive hotels. The food is good. We ordered room service and the room service boy was very amiable and helpful. The only down side to the hotel is that it is in a need of a major renovation. The garden wing rooms are old with box tv and even some missing cabinet handles. However, the rooms are very clean. Pity. It would have been one of the most excellent weekend getaway if only they would renovate the rooms as the beach and hotel service is truly good. Check out was also hassle free and we left our bags at the lobby and picked them up at the Lumut jetty. Would I come again with my family ? Definitely.

Room Tip: pacific and ocean wings for seaview. adult pool in front of pacific wing

The setting of the Island is amazing. Too bad the facilities are not up to scratch.

The rooms and restaurants are in desperate need of renovation...

“gutes Hotel in traumhafter Lage”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

the locvation is actually absolully great, so great it is compemsating for some minor lacks maybe;
there is a huge, long and wide beach, exclusivly for the hotel (natural limitation by the bay) and no fught for sunchairs; anyway great for relaxing; there is also a huge garden area for walking and biking; the island is anyway small and idyllic, several places you can reach by foot; the service (room, reception, resto) was ok, with some room for improvement in regards of "hospitatlity"; the rooms are ok, I would say an "ok 4 star", nothing too special, at least the Ocean Wing rooms, but nice view! And attention with the visitors: there are many monkeys, even entering your room...

“rooms very much need improving”

We booked two rooms for four of us, but booked another room the day before our arrival. Receptionists could not find the extra booking so we had to wait for a while. The rooms only had a glimpse of the sea and one room was on another floor. Worst still, one fridge had the remains of some chocolate cake left in the fridge!

Rang reception for it to be cleaned and a cleaner came. She came only with a cloth and no detergent. While she was there, I thought she might be able to clean the phone which smelt of someone’s armpits. No problem, same cloth with no detergent. After the cake was taken away, it was left in the same corridor outside a door that said ‘’Staff’’.

A number of things could do with a bit clean including the sides of the long bath. Lifts – the doors close too quickly. Wine – a huge mark up bu we had a bottle every evening. Air-conditioning units needed a clean as it was noisy. Pool was adequate. Cabinets to kettle – could do with some fixing as the doors bang. Kettle – water spills when poured and one not working. No shaving points in all three rooms. TV reception is poor. Blinds broke.

On the plus side, broadband was very good and so was the evening buffet which costs a bit if you have a family. The island has lush tropical surroundings with lots of beautiful trees and greenery. But expect some mosquitoes after dawn. On our last day, we went on this crazy rubber ‘the great mable’ motorboat ride. It was exhilarating! That was the highlight of our four nights.
