“Excellent hotel, extraordinaty value for the money you pay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

During our long trip in Asia we decided to stop only for one day In Langkawi - very much recommendet island for recreation. The most interesting was the bridge high in the sky above the jungle - 700 m above sea level, one you can reach on a cable car / 2000 m length/ Increadible view from the top of the mountain! So the decision was - we have to look for a hotel close to the cable car station and there it was - the oriental village and the hotel Geopark on the territory of a real geopark. Booking the hotel - the doouble room was 33 Euros per night - we based our decision on the atractive price rather on the services offered by the hotel. The great surprise was that the hotel was just opposite the stop of the cable car. The hotel was perfet is size, the room was BIG, the beds - extremely confortable, the bathroom -great, The view from the room was super - the top of the mountain with the cablecar station on the top. There is a shuttle minivan to the nearest beach and resort where you can use the swimming pool, if you decide to walk back - the beach is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Another 15 minutes walk is an eco path up the mountain to reach a beautiful waterfall. About 25 minutes walk is the harbour with a nice marina and several very good restaurants. Now the best surprise - the island is a tax free zone and all around the hotel there are shops offering not only souveniers but drinks, excellent choclate etc. as well . For the kids there is a small zoo and many other attractions. It is worth staying there at least 3 days!!!!
The service was excellent and the food offered in the reastaurants in the oriental village and on the parking lot reastaurant was perfect!!!

“Value for money if you can forget the night life”

This is truely one of the value for money 'hidden gem' hotels we have stayed in. The rooms were clear and cosy. The staff friendliness and hotel feel gave it a very 'homely' atmosphere. The surrounding views were breathtaking in the early mornings and at sunset. Some of the hotel facilities were a little run down (e.g. our door was a little broken, floor carpets need replacing etc) but all that is forgotten when you are caught up on the charm and romance of the hotel and its locality. It is also a very convenient spot for doing the cable car and for duty free shopping. We bought the cheepest beer in langkawi at the stores in the Oriental village. On the down side, there is very little to do in the premises after 6 besides a strole around and dinner at one of the 1-2 food places open. But as there is a free shuttle service the hotel has, you can use that in the evenings to venture out of the hotel at a low budget. All-in-all, great base for exploring langkawi!

“GeoPark, timing is crucial indeed..”

Stayed there for a nite...looked impressive from the reviews i got from TripAdvisor but somehow, quite disappointed during my stay there...I guess it was more of a timing issue as during my stay there, the cable car was closed for 2 weeks or so for maintenance, its was during the fasting month of the Muslims (thus the ultra low occupancy and 'ghost/abandoned town' feel. Yeah, it's true, lots of shops were closed for the entire day and other people/guest were rare in between!!! Then again, my visit was on a weekday, so maybe it would be better on weekends), and quite some shoplots were still under renovation. To make things worse, walk in rates for a double room was RM150 inclusive of breakfast which was just so-so (set breakfast, not buffet). Room was neat and clean though and hotel staff friendly. Only thing that i really liked about the whole thing was that i got to park my car right at the hotel door entrance (it's a proper parking lot and within 5 meters from the hotel door entrance.. :-D )

“A Lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 March 2010

We stayed at the Geopark for 4 nights and loved it. I think probabally 4 nights is enough as it is quite isolated. However the cablecar goes from within the grounds and it is not far to walk to the seven wells waterfall. Our room was clean and a decent size. The staff did not have perfect english but were very helpful and tried their best. I dont speak any Malay so I cant criticise their english! There is a small swimming pool but no sunbeds. The pool is away from the hotel but we found it lovely for a quick dip. If you want to spenmd the day sunbathing there is a free shuttle to the Mutiara Hotel down on the beach every half hour. This hotel is lovely so if you stay at Geopark you get the benefit of a cheap Hotel to stay in and the use of a more expensive hotels facilities for free! The downside is the restaurant closes at 6.30pm but ther are a couple of others that open at 7pm along with a food court where a couple of the stalls stay open until 9.30pm. After then everywhere is closed so dont come here for the nightlife! There is TV in the room but only Star Movies in English everything else Malay. All in all I would recommend this as a lovely quiet happy place to stay. Oh I forgot to mention they have an elephant that you can go for rides on and a little zoo and there is a duty free shop along with several other shops. Very busy at weekend with locals.
