We stayed at Fox Hill Langkawi for 5 nights in mid-November and thoroughly enjoyed our visit! We stayed at Amin house, which was beautifully decorated and just the right size for a couple or a couple with a young child. The mosquito net and curtains and pillows were beautiful in shades of white. It was a pleasure to lay in bed and listen to the birds just outside. The pool was gorgeous and at a perfect temperature for a late afternoon dip. Fox Hill is not near the touristed areas, which was why we wanted to stay there and experience a stay in a typical Malay house, but it was close enough so that you could drive either to town (where there are some great restaurants) or to the touristed beach areas (also some good restaurants -- try Orkid Ria) within 20 minutes or so. Our host, Maria, was very welcoming and friendly, and gave us lots of good advice about where to go on the island. She even organized a trip into town one night for some delicious Ice Kacang (you must try it!) and a visit to the Pasar Malam (or night market) with some of the other guests, where we all bought samples of food to take back and share. We enjoyed talking and learning about Malaysian food with Maria, and if you are interested you can even learn to cook some of the Malaysian dishes there. We rented a car from Fox Hill, which turned out to be a great idea, as we only rented it on the days we needed it. Langkawi is small and within a few days we had travelled every major road numerous times, but it is easy to get lost at night if you do not have a good map -- buy a map from the hotel, which has more of the roads listed. In any event, do not be afraid to venture out, even if you get lost you will find your way back soon! We went to almost all of the beaches on the island but much preferred Pasir Tengkorak, where we went a few times, having the whole beach to ourselves except for a few locals on each visit. The sand was white with no rocks and the bathing was superb. You must try to eat at least one evening meal at Fox Hill. Tutih, the cook, made a phenomenal meal one night including her famous Beef Rendang and we enjoyed all of her breakfasts as well. All in all, we were made to feel right at home, and would certainly love to go back to Fox Hill Langkawi on any future stays in Langkawi!
