I spent a week in Miyazaki Japan, traveling on business, and stayed at the JAL City in Miyazaki. The hotel is located in the middle of downtown Miyazaki, and is close to a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and nightclubs. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from Miyazaki train station, and about a 20 minute cab ride from the Airport.
This 12 story hotel boasts a large, comfortable lobby for meeting and gathering with friends and travel companions. The restaurant on the first floor serves is quite nice, and offers a daily breakfast buffet, featuring both traditional Japanese fare, and an ecclectic mix of western foods. The restaurant staff are always friendly and attentive.
The rooms, however, are tiny. The room has a small closet, with a few clothes hangers, and very little storage space. The bedroom isn't much larger than the bed, and the work desk, small refrigerator and TV are packed in tightly. The bathroom is about 2 meters by 2 meters, and I had to duck to get in and out of the shower.
There are some nice features in the room as well. The bathroom features a toilet and bidee, with a seat warmer. This is a treat on a cold morning. In room TV features a wide variety of Japanese programming, and BBC world news, broadcast in English. There are also several pay TV channels available, and for the bargain price of 1000 yen you can purchase four pay-per view channels. Three channels of adult-oriented programming, and one channel of new movies and popular American TV programming. If you don't speak Japanese, this is your best bet for entertainment.
The bed headboards have a built in clock radio, with an alarm feature. The hotel also features wake up calls. The hotel makes up for it's small closets by offering same day laundry service, at a reasonable price.
If you are considering staying at the JAL City, Miyazaki, ask yourself what is most important to you. If you are interested in creature comforts in your room, you should stay at a different hotel. But if you want to stay in the heart of the city, surrounded by great places to shop and eat, then the JAL City is just right for you. If I ever return to Miyazaki again, I'll stay at the JAL City, for business or leisure.
