“a great place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

very quiet, great food, assistance from the owners!

you can interact as much or as little as you like with the owners and other guests.

the owners are very helpful with directions and things to do.

interesting area, beautiful scenery!

the only reason I gave a 4 rather than 5 on service is that the wireless internet is spotty in the rooms. the only good reception I got was in the den area. If you have Verizon Wireless the reception is spotty on that as well...but in exchange you get a great, quiet stay!

“Still the Best of the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

Our fourth stay with June and John. The experience was excellent as has always been the case. We make this a "Destination" for some genuine relaxing and fine food and conversation. It is an easy drive to the Adarondicks for some sightseeing and some good resturants for dinners.

“This place was GREAT! And so was breakfast!!”

A friend and I were traveling up to The Harvest Fest in Sharon Springs and decided to spend the night here. We made our way to Amsterdam and after dinner at Parillos (that's another story, YIKES!) we checked in to Halcyon (a little later, around 9PM), our keys and information were waiting for us. Our room (Vorhees room) was on the first floor with a private full bathroom and a big comfy bed and flatscreen TV. The room was very tidy and had a gas woodstove. It was adorable. When we woke in the morning we were treated to fruit salad and buttermilk pancakes made and served by John and June. They were so nice and accomodating. And the grounds of the farm are just beautiful! We had a great time and I plan on coming back again, this time with my husband!

I stayed three nights in the little room-perfect for a solo traveler.
food, innkeepers, and atmosphere -awesome
Inn is in the countryside and one wakes to birds singing.
Innkeepers give very good directions to the to the local 5 star italian resturant.
the resturant is locally owned and operated.
If you stay there take time to see the erie canal locks-there are several locks very close by.

“Beautiful and peaceful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

What an incredible place to stay! John and June are so kind and hospitable, they made us feel right at home. The grounds and gardens are exquisite, the house is tastefully decorated and features beautiful antiques and accents, and the rooms are all big, well-furnished and comfortable, especially by bed and breakfast standards.

We stayed in the Magnolia room and we both loved the luxurious and comfortable king-sized bed. It was extremely hot during our stay but the air conditioner was more than adequate and we were relieved to have it. The bathroom is huge and the Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries very nice.

The breakfasts were unbelievable. June is an amazing cook--she whipped up feasts each morning and we couldn't help but take seconds of everything! Talking to John about farming, whaling and local Amsterdam culture was also a real treat. On our last morning, we mentioned that we were looking for a local farm stand where we could buy some fresh produce to bring back to the city with us. John then produced a list of all the vegetables he had been growing and brought us out into the garden to pick our own. We were able to bring home the freshest, most delicious vegetables I've had in a very long time and the experience of pulling them from the earth ourselves was amazing.

We'll definitely be back!
