THIS IS A LONG REVIEW SO I AM SORRY BUT IT GIVES PLENTY OF DETAIL FOR THOSE WHO WANT IT .
we booked a year ago, 9 of us in total 3 groups. we booked a duplex as we wanted the extra room upstairs and was all booked and happy. we never received any paper work at all, and so a week before the holiday i rang THOMAS COOK to double check that i had a duplex book. she confirm a duplex and 2 rooms so i was happy. at check in i was told i had booked a double (2 double and 1 standard room) take it up with the rep 2 morro. who then produced paper work saying the same thing and that i should of received this also . i didnt ! why then THOMAS COOK, did someone in the nottingham town branch ring me back and log in to my booking and confirm to me a DUPLEX AND 2 ROOMS ?? i will be compalining as this was very annoying to say the least. obviously while im away i have no real resourses to do anything so enjoyed my holiday anyway- but thts not the point .
RANT OVER .
so we boked for a family of 4 2 adults 2 kids (13 & 7) our family who we travelled with had been the previous yr and said it was really good so came recommened and trip advisor also seemed to be all good reviews as well .
east midlands only fly on a thurs but birmingham, have 3 days they fly just incase u are interested and they do 10 days as well.
the flight was on time and the seats are very cramped. no room to move at all. this could be improved as not great when u feel every movement from behingd the whole flight !!
we landed on tme and had really really bad turbulance to likes that non of us had ever seen, but it was ok and the kids were ok. (this was their first airoplane trip)
the arrivals was easy, the coach was easy to find. although again on sitting on the coach we didnt have our names on the welcome sheets?! there is also a gap half way along the coach with steps which my daughter fell down into on the return flight but the rep seemed very uninterested when i told her.
20 min transfer so really fast and we were second off the drops so great!
first impressions are WOW were staying here. the strip of hotels on that road are all impressive in their own right and u say wow to them all.
someone helped us with our bags, checkin was easy and fast. our bags arrived 2 mins after we did to our room. the room we had been given was lovely. 1 double bed , 1 single , 1 sofa and a sea view which was breath taking . we didnt un pack due to room mix up and needing to be sorted till next day. so the boys went down to the bar and the girls went to bed .
all rooms are key carded, which is easy when u get the hang of it . we were on the 6 th floor which was lovely and the view was amazing. 1625 was our room just around the corner from the lifts. not too bad for the noise.
being our first trip we had to find our way round the complex and this was very easy.
everywhere you looked it was spotlessly clean and well presented.
ok breakfast- if like me you heard "buffet" and quivered fear not as this is not nor will it ever be a bad experiance !!
you go down in the lifts (6 of) to the -1 floor and the restaurant is on the left nr the door to go outside . you are normaly welcomed by a lady. then the fun begings.
the children buffet is the first thing you see with mini tables and mini buffet bar food , drinks and so on - really nice touch i think. then you will just see a sea of tables and on the right ids the food areas and then at the bottom past the bar is the circle as i call it, where there is ample more choice of food . i am fussy and my daughter is a fussy eater. we ate well every day !! my only improvement for breakfast would be another toast machine as the one they have is slow and only 1 for all thew guests is rubbish but thats it really . they have a cereal counter with many types , a yoguart counter, fruits counter, cheeses, meats, and many scary foreign foods that i dear not smell or taste !! they had chips for breakfast and eggs of many kids , an omelette station made fresh for you. french toast, fish , a diet counter, breads of all kinds, butters marg. they had orange juice in the machines( even tho it say o.j is charged?) apple juice , pineapple, cherry, lemon, and another flavour. coffees, teas, hot chocolate. pancakes freshly made , waffles with chocolate sauce, cherry sauce, sugar topping , coconut , pistachio. this is a fraction of the choices so u are never stuck at all. whille im on food i will continue with lunch and dinner .
LUNCH- every day we didnt venture to the restaurant we stayed at the pool most days. under the ampi theatre this is a food court. they open staggered. the bar is always open, next to the bar is animation (basically activities for all -free-) then the towel booth ( you take your cards and hire towels for the day which is good ) then the showers , then the toilets.
the first food bits are , pizza - freshly made in front of you salami, cheese, mushroom and ham very yummy and very popular !, donner kebabs (chicken 1 day then doner the next -with fresh cooked bread ) and the sandwich hut with cheese, ham ,tuna, salad fresh cooked bread everyday all the time its open! after they have been open a while the others then open , ice cream stand - really nice ice cream and very flavoursome (i only had 1 but the cherry was mouth watering !) cherry , strawberry, vanilla, coconut, caramel, choclate, mint ! then the desserts open- they have waffles and pancakes with all the topping i escribed earlier. then the jacket potatoe stand with some topping that didnt look great but cheese was there so ok. then coffee and cakes opens- mini pastries and cookies and coffee. we also tried the shore shack nr the beach as well . which is a sit down place they take ur order - burgers , chips, spagetti, fried chicken all looked nice and fresh again , huge salad bar and breads and they deliver your food and drinks .
DINNER- everyday we ate in the buffet restaurant and there was alway and i mean always at least 10+ meals to try even for a fussy eater! they have the kids corner with stuff and they open at 6pm -6.30 pm for the kids only so they can be fed in peace and ideal for very little kids. the main part opens at 6.30 and the door both go open. we would be ready and waiting and would go get a table outside (recommened) as the waitor will bring you drinks all the time your out there which u dont really get inside as they are too busy cleaning tables. there are trusty chips which are very popular. but each night they have a theme and soo food goes accordingly as well as the basics of everyday food . so rice, chips, pizza fresh made , veal , chicken , turkey, beef, fish- swordfish and others that all looked great. kebabs, breads , the slad bear was huge and really great choices, all kinds of smelly cheeses and olives , foreign foods i wouldnt eat but something for everyone from everywhere. we all love foods in our party and we all ate really really well. all the kids had something and were full everyday !
the food was fresh everyday and lookedamazing. better quality than you would ever imagined. everything was cooked fresh and they never ran out of anything . they would just go in the back and get another one. they had a diet corner with healthy foods (boiled mostly ) the circle had a inner circle which was the cake isle and although alot were similar they all looked stunning and they all tasted good. they had local cakes too - baklava which were a sweet filo pastry which were quite nice . i took a plate every night and shared about 5 or 6 to try the ones i like the look of . they also has a dessert couter which had a special dessert every day and the decorated the paltes up to look fancy , we tried the profitor rolls, creme brule, tirimasu, cheese cake and they were all good. so overall i would give the food 10/10 for the food as we never struggled once to eat anywhere at anytime.
they also have a turkish tent which we went into but had always eaten so never tried anything, they had snacks in the lobby bars, they had a pattisery that opened 4.30pm -12am which had cakes, sandwiches, some drinks and snacks. then the bisro opens a12am -7am and they did different stuff - chips, chicken and stuff like that . you can eat whenever you want .
POOLS/ BEACH -
the pools are amazing and go the length of the gardens. there is a wade in pol that extends into the pool and then has a little whirlpool area just off it, you then go up a bit further and there are 2 mini pools ideal for little ones , a bit further up and then the main party pool with a bar at the back and ample chairs to sit enjoy the music and they do the activities in this pool as well . you walk a bit further and past the turkish tent and the shore snack and then see the beach. there is a small well equipt bar at the back and then loads of sun lounges then a pier over the sea with sun lounges awater sports hut with loads to do . the beach is very clean and they also have a shaded kiddie part with spades and buckets for the little ones. the sand is roasting hot and the pebbles do hurt your feet but once nr the sea or walking in it you are fine . also we discovered that if you get past the pebble in the sea the sand was softer and not much deeper .
everyday the activities are on - they have a mini club free for the little ones witha park to play in and they have their own activitiies. they have a teenage activities proggram- shooting , darts , water polo, table tennis, mini football everyday and the winner always got a certificate.
they have an adult program- gym , boccia, volleyball, water polo , connect 4 , archery, darts, water gym , pool game , step areobics, football on the beach . they also have a mini arcade (you buy tokens ) a bowling arcade (tokens) pool tables (tokens) and they have a table tennis table. we did some activities and we always got to have a go in the arcade it was always never too busy . evening times they have a mini disco at 8.30 with dancing for the kids and then the amphi turns into the evening entertainment. we watched a few , a comedy show, mr royal wings, acrobats, mr & mrs royal wings, dancing show they were all decent enough and then once it finished they would clap you out of the theatre. really good.
we loved the feel at the hotel and being our first time going to this sort of holiday we were very unsure of what wed get or even if we'd like it at all . we were so surprised by the happy staff. everyone greeted you witha smile and when you got something and said thank you they always said "your welcome " which was lovely. we never felt any pressure to tip although we did but because we enjoyed their service not because we had to ! if you didnt tip they didnt seem any different . the only thing we noticed was that they worked long hrs as you would see the staff in the day and then again at night and we wondered how they did it ?! the animation team are great, not push at all. they would say hello and ask if you wanted to come and were fine if you said no. they always looked happy and like they were having soo much fun! they did stuff all day long and then at night did the theatre and then got changed and then came to the pool bar and danced with people and spoke to everyone (not intrusivly tho ) then when it closed at 24.00 they would come and let you know the giddy disco was on and they were going there too !! (over 18's tho ) everyone was helpful and polite and friendly and soo talented. they all seemed to speak 5 languages?! well done for the hotel getting great staff!! it really makes the difference !!
we tried some water sports and they were reasonably priced. we also booked a photo shoot after a nother of our group had one and we were sooooo impressed with them we couldn not have one . OK IF YOU LOOK IN THE DRAW UNDER THE TV THERE IS A COUPON FOR A FREE PICTURE SHOOT (1 PICTURE WITH THE HOTEL IN THE BACK GROUND FREE) BUT IF YOU BOOK A SHOOT THEY TAKE 45 MINS AND THEN YOU BUY WHAT YOU LIKE AND THE SHOOT IS FREE!! WE HAD "JOHN" AND IF U HAVE HIM YOU WILL BE PLEASED AS HE REALLY LOOKED AFTER US AND GAVE US A GREAT DEAL. SO IF LIKE US WOULD NEVER OF BOTHERED TAKE SOME EURO, LIRA OR POUNDS AS THEY TAKE ALL KINDS OF MONEY. THE PICTURES ARE 8 EUROS EACH BUT IF YOU ASK NICELY JOHN WILL LOOK AFTER YOU . THEY LOOK BETTER THAN MY WEDDING PICTURES!!
SLIDES AND PARK
ok the slides are round the side through the tunnel which i actually like as its away from the main pool area and so less busy. they have a mini pool with baby , and kiddy slides separate, and then they have adult 12+ slides a white one slow, a blue one -fun , a red fast one and a yellow one slow. they have their own pool and then in another separate bit is a dingy pool with a green and a yellow slide these have a little dingy with either 2 people on or a yellow one for 1 person. these are good fun and we had a few goes on these . slides only open 10-12 and 3-5 pm and then the wave pool was open 2 times 11.30-12 and 4-4.30. this looks huge n the pictures but is in fact quite small. they have a lazy river which had 2 canoes on i think maybe a few more would be better but we got to have a go. there is also a bar and toilets around this area as well and they were very clean also . ;like previous reviews PLEASE DONT RUN AND WALK CAREFULLY AS THE FLOORS ARE VERY VERY SLIPPY!! they do have mats but not everywhere. they had a attendant on each slide most days so you felt safe enough. no one pushed in the lines on the slides so we enjoyed them. theyre were plenty of beds to go round every day. the fun fair again operates at certain times and the kids loved it and the attendants were really good ( excpet for the lady who always seemed miserable and never spoke to anyone and seemed very uninterested - she only did a few days and did the trampoline and the train tho ) so there are 4 trampolines and usually manned so you geta turn, a train for the little ones , a bit further down is the pirate ship which goes dangerously high but the kid loved it immensly !! they even got really friendly with the attendant who got them shouting stuff ( not sure what but i hope it was clean !! diaha diaha ) my only issue here was the music not sure if they knoew but the pirate ship song was burn mutha f@@ker and a few other crude words but sometimes you couldnt make it out as the music was loud but be warned ! then a swing ride ( the man would stop it everytime someone wanted to get on so everyone could ride which was a nice touch .) then a merry go round which was just on and you could easily walk on and off it with ease . then a big wheel which was a bit dodgy at times but was ok . the guy who ran this seemed un sure when to stop it sometimes. 3pm-5pm and 7pm - 9.30pm so plenty of time to get a ride . we never qued for anything but the trampolines and that was only 2 mins so fantastic!! * TOP TIP IF YOU GO TO THE FAIR GO OUT RECEPTION DOORS AND THEN A LITTLE PATH TAKES YOU TO THE FAIR ON THE LEFT QUICKER THAN WALKING ROUND . *
across the road is a shopping mall and to the right is a bazzar and chemist ans so on . even a walk to see the hotels is recommened as they are stuning ! there is a concord hotel that has a plane on top , a titianic one witha ship, a chinese themed one next door, 3 doors down is they royal palace which towers and looks very immpresive !!
our rooms were cleaned every day and we got up at half 9 had breakfast with no trouble everyday and then went back up to get dressed and pack for the pool. so half 10 some days and we would come back later and the room had been done as they were on our floor early but respectedthe do not disturb sign. they have a few shops in the hotel with some prices a little high and some ok .
on the last day our flight was at 00.40 so we had all day at the hotel. we had to check out for 12pm which we did. we kept our towel cards till the end of the day and they just took our passport as payment till we returned them or you could leave 10 euros. if you check out then go down and they have a room to put the ase nr reception with a bell boy out side most of the time and always someone on reception and it has a camera in their too. we asked for late checkout but they said the rooms were full. so we lft our bags in their and they were fine . we returned at 5pm to get changed and use the spa shower room which is very small but ok to get changed (only 1 shower cubicle which is not private in any way !!)
ok we are not night people and not really party and drinking people but we enjoyed a drink or 10 every night as it was nice . if you like a relaxed atmostphere go to the lobby bars with comfy settees and chairs and waitor service (1 bar on each side- 1 has live music) they both have an outdoor bit with chairs and a great view. the pool bar is where we mostly went as they had music and was good fun . the drinks menu was really good. they had a page of alcoholic cocktails and then some non alcoholic iones for the kids to join in . milk , juices, hot chocolates, other cocktails without gin or rum . beer which was nice im told and shandy was a fav of mine as soo refreshing in the day. slushys strawberry or orange. bottle watter at every bar (cold as well ) pspsi, pepsi light, tango, 7up. we tried most cocktails and they would bring you nuts , crisps, fruit, nachos, bread sticks and popcorn as well for a litle snack.
i know this is a long review but i read reviews on here all the time and "great holiday" isnt enough detail for anyone so wanted to make sure you know how great this place is . we are already looking for next year as we loved it soo much and cant wait!!
we booked from east midlands with thomas cook. these only have a thurs flight and only do 7 days till june/july but if you look at birmingham they have a mon/tues/sat flight and they do 10 days whenever so keep that in mind when booking.
hopefully i have helped you with my review and i am happy to answer any questions you may have .
the rooms were really nice and clean , the bathroom was always spotless and clean. we always had loo roll and toiletries my only grip was that the bedding was big enough for us and we would of like it slightly bigger but thats a tiny little thing. *TIP* WHEN YOU OPEN UR BALCONY DOOR MAKE SURE YOU SHUT IT WELL OR THE AIR CON WONT COME ON AS FOR 3 DAYS WE COULDNT WORK OUT HOW IT WASNT ON ?? BUT WE SLAMMED THE DOOR ONE DAY AND REALISED THE DOOR HAD NOT BEEN SHUT AS MUCH AS IT NEEDED TO BE SO JUST BEAR THIS IN MIND !
3 key works you will hear from your time at royal wings - "problem" "sabatage" & "catastrophy"
these are from the shows and the animation staff who make you laugh so much !!
lastly i would like to thank ROYAL WINGS for an amazing first family holiday, other than room mix up (thomas cooks fault) we enjoyed every min and cant wait to return. the staff made a huge difference and we enjoyed it for that reason aswell. so nice to have pleasant , friendly staff who want you to enjoy ur stay and help you do what ever they can to get that !!
if you book with thomas cook quadrouple check ur room as i booked a duplex but got a double ?! even...
