“FRENCH HOTEL - If you do not speak French DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

I booked this hotel for 2 weeks and left after 2 days! I travelled with my mum and two children aged 3 and 11, we arrived just after 1am to be greeted with complete shock that we were British and booked into this hotel. None the less we were shown our room, which included a 15 minute trek including going up and down flights of stairs, once in the room the reality of the hotel we were staying in started to dawn on us. The room was damp, bathroom was filthy and bed linen had seen better days but definately no washing machine!!!! The "All Inclusive" deal consists of 5 hot plates of undercooked and cold slop! The salad bar seemed to be good as the flies loved it, breakfast, lunch and dinner! The pool is small and the entertainment was limited to 4 young boys competing who could dance or wear the most oil. I cannot comment on the variety of "All Inclusive" drinks as the bar tenders did not speak English to enable us to get served, but there is a supermarket 10 minutes down the road to buy refreshments when your children get dehydrated. I spoke to the reception and after 50 minutes of trying to find out how to change hotels the Manager was called who explained it was my "problematic" for not speaking the "French". I contacted the travel agent I booked with and that afternoon was upgraded and the relief to leave this hotel was at that point the best part of the holiday. I personally do not read reviews on hotels as each holiday is based on personal preference, but every bad review about this hotel is correct it is an absolute hell hole and where the cost is cheap to go you more than spend on eating out and refreshments.

“The worst hotel I have ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

This hotel was booked independently and appeared to offer a comfortable hotel with the usual facilities expected from a 3* hotel...how wrong could we have been. The first room that we were shown into had a filthy bathroom with heaviliy stained shower curtain, no cold running water only hot, cracked tiles and a bath plug that didnt fit - the bedroom itself was basic, musty, had no working airconditioning and looked out onto a flat roof covered in cigarette butts. Having been moved the following day to a room only slightly better the experience did not improve - the restaurant was poorly run (on 2 occassions I was removed from the table that I had been given by a waiter as there had been a "mix-up" with their reservation system and left to wander the restaurant looking for another table with my dinner plate in my hand), the allocated area of the beach was a 15 minute walk away from the hotel, covered in rubbish and had only 18 sunloungers (10 of which were broken) for the hotel guests. The reception desk was staffed by unhelpful staff and despite reporting a badly leaking airconditioning unit 4 days in a row nothing was done to repair it. Quite simply this is the worst place I have ever stayed in 20 years and how the hotel was awarded 3 stars is completely beyond me.

“"In the Past"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2007

Booked two weeks through Globallatedeals.com, first mistake, had to contact them a number of times after booking to sort out flight tickets, accom vouchers and transfers and, as per usual 0870 number, kept holding for an age costing a fortune.

Anyway, Tunisia. arrived at Monastir Airport, passport controls and security were a nightmare, (worse on return journey).

within the wbsite the Hotel Lilas is advertised as a three star, and looks quite reasonable, how wrong you can be, i would be lucky to give it two stars, maybe even get them prosecuted under trades description. The whole Hotel requires updating, cracked and broken tiles on the floors and walls are grouted over, yes the decor has had a lick of paint but alas this was completed in a slap dash manner without any care, the place is GRUBBY.

29 rooms in the Hotel, we were the only British couple in a hotel that i would have called a French colony, everything, and i mean everything, being centered around the French clientele.

You can complain about the non functioning aircon or the noise from the bar during the French entertainment, but alas, it will fall on deaf ears.

Tunisia is a very nice place to spend a break, the beaches are brill, but there are far far better places to stay than this.
