The Domina Inn Sultan Beach caters for the needs of Italian package holiday tourists. Unfortunately, this proves to be a big disadvantage for the independent traveller. We found the hotel itself to be maintained to a reasonable standard with clean rooms, well-presented food (most of which is Tunisian in style), friendly waiters and cleaning staff. The hotel beach is also clean, and not over-crowded (we didn't use the pool). We found the reception staff to be less than friendly however (when we had a problem – then sorted by the more friendly manager).
We were offered half-board accommodation via Expedia. Although we had no complaints about the quality of the food at breakfast and dinner, mealtimes were often spoilt by the attitude of the Italian guests who formed the majority. With few exceptions, the Italian 'families' would reserve and fill a table with vast amounts of food from the buffet table in advance of sitting down, and then proceed to hardly eat any of it (whilst making much noise in the process). The hotel seemed powerless to do anything about it though clearly some waiting staff were disgusted by the sheer waste of food. The herd mentality of some of the guests also resulted in repeated knocking on doors late at night.
The other, more minor criticism, is that the hotel states that their water is unfit for drinking but forbids guests from bringing in food or drink from outside. Mineral water from the bar is ten times the price in the local supermarket (so we ignored this rule). A key for the room safe is also charged at a daily rate (though good place to hide illicit food). We would not return to this hotel but we could see its attraction if you're Italian wanting an all-inclusive package, and are accompanied by your extended family.
