“fantastic hotel! Should be 5 stars.”

Just come back from an all inclusive stay at this hotel. We had no idea what Tunisia was going to be like and I wholeheartedly recommend it! The food is excellent and fresh, a lot of fresh fish (bass, bream etc, expensive in a UK restaurant), mixed meat kebabs cooked on the grill (meat was lean and good quality), nice Tunisian stews made with beans and pulses, plenty of Mediterranean inspired dishes with universal appeal (they do also have chips, pasta dishes, bread and ice cream and stuff for the less adventurous! Oh and fresh pizzas which we didn't try but heard were great). The restaurant is lovely, clean, bright and modern and all of the staff at the hotel are excellent (and never once did we feel they expected a tip, we gave each one 2-4 Dinars every couple of days when we had change) Presentation is beautiful, the salads are lovely, they often do elaborate decorative vegetable carvings and sugar sculptures etc just for fun! We tried the A La Carte Restaurant Italian menu which I didn't actually think was as good as the buffet but still good. They also left a birthday cake for my boyfriend in our room without us even telling them which was really sweet, they read it off our visas :-)

The hotel is on a beautiful clean beach and there wasn't a lot of rubbish on the surrounding areas (probably more in high season). If you are concerned about hygiene you needn't be, I ate salads, had ice in my drinks, everything is clean and well maintained. If you are worried about hassle it's really not that bad (hardly any in winter), like previous people have said just say 'no thank you' and smile politely whilst walking away and keep walking! Don't shake their hand or engage too much in conversation because you will be sucked in and then it gets a bit awkward. Just be firm, they don't really want to aggravate you it's just their selling tactics! There is a fixed price shop on road outside the hotel which is good for everyday things and a few souvenirs, the hotel shop is a little expensive but it's good if you really don't want to deal with haggling!

The indoor pool at the hotel is maintained at about 33-35C so nice and warm for when the weather is a bit off! The Moorish Cafe is fun and you can have a Sheesha/Chica and a turkish tea. The 24 hour bar is great and the young lad who works there became our favourite waiter as he makes you special cocktails according to taste!

Our room was really nice, clean and modern with air con/heating (sadly we did have to use the heating once or twice!), the bathroom was nice with a decent shower and a bath. Every room has a balcony/terrace, we stayed in the block near to the beach restaurant which I think is the newest so if you can try and request it, as we were on the ground floor we got a partial sea view through some gardens without paying extra!

The gardens are lovely and the hotel is very spread out (you can walk past the stables and see the well cared for horses that you can ride on the beach... sigh) so I imagine if you came in summer you really wouldn't need to leave ever! We went on a two day sahara tour organised by Thomas Cook which was great, highlights were riding camels in the sahara at sundown and being driven in a jeep over the sand dunes to see the star wars set! Oh and the Troglodyte houses (underground houses where the Berber tribe live dotted about the Atlas mountains) were really interested and the people are happy to welcome you. Having stayed in a 4 star hotel on that trip Les Orangers was miles nicer with so much more great food, but they don't have so much competition in the desert I guess!

All in all a great holiday for a bargain price! The weather was mostly sunny with cloud and occasionally raining and quite windy/chilly sometimes. I would say take a jumper or two whatever time of year but we did get a rather cold spell (snowing at home) so don't be put off!

Oh also, if you are a mega party animal this is probably not the hotel for you (Sentido Phenicia in Yasmine looked good for that or the Chich Khan), it's more of a quiet relaxing destination (although there is entertainment), a lot of the people were retired but we are in our twenties and there are plenty of other younger people there wanting to relax. Suitable for families/solo/friends I would say though :-)

Room Tip: Ask for the block near the beach restaurant, it is the newest (they tend to put everyone there in lo...

“Les Orangers - Nov 2011”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We were unfortunate in that the weather conditions were very poor on arrival. We were diverted to Monastir, and had to wait for about five hours until we were transported to Les Orangers, plus delays on the roads due to extreme water conditions.

On arrival at Les Orangers about six hours later than expected we experienced the fastest most efficient hotel check-in ever! We were provided with a drink, our AI bands, and details of the hotel, without having to queue for an hour or so, as on previous holidays. At last, a good point in our holiday.

That was not the last good point, there were many more good points than bad points.

Every holiday has its good and bad elements, and this was no exception.

Bad points first (to finish on a high point):

Redirection to alternative airport;
Long VERY DISORGANISED wait for transport to hotel;
Poor weather for first three days;
Beach in poor condition for first few days.
(The above items are not specific to Les Orangers, and I fully understand that these elements were totally outside the control of the hotel and travel company.)
Room with connecting door with occupants with very loud voices who rose at 06:30 and made sure the whole corridor were aware that they were awake.
Beach toilets were limited and not particularly good.

Good points:
VERY fast efficient check-in at hotel;
24 hour all-inclusive. This made for such a relaxing holiday, no concerns to 'get the last drink in'. I firmly believe that I drank less alcohol on this holiday than on previous AI holidays, but enjoyed this more as we felt no pressure to 'get our moneys worth'. Many nights we were in bed by midnight, but the opportunity to stay up when we wanted made this a very relaxing and memorable holiday.
Very clean pool area;
EXCELLENT waiters, very attentive, tips shared between them on a daily basis.
Lovely gardens, well kept, and near the beach there is an amazing display of large pebbles very carefully balanced into towers almost 1500mm high!
Main restaurant, wide range of food. Typical AI style menu, catering for the majority of tastes, including limited number of items prepared to order.
Lunch menu at the beach restaurant was again excellent. Usual salads, and freshly cooked fish was very popular.
Beach area very clean, tho do be careful walking barefoot as both me and my partner experienced sharp pine type needles in out feet. The beach was cleared following the storms as mentioned above, and was very pleasant after it had been cleared.
Snacks were available on the beach from a small bar.
Limited drinks were also available from a small tent on the beach. Following earlier reviews we took insulated drink mugs, and used these instead of the plastic cups available. They held more, kept the drinks cool for longer, and kept any unauthorised visitors (flies) from the drinks.
Staff/waiters: all very attentive, very friendly and undemanding.

Beach bar evening meal:unlike most AI hotels that have a specialist restaurant where guests can book for one meal per week, Les Orangers does not limit access other than by numbers. All the options (Tunisian, Asian, & Italian) are served in the beach bar. When the tables are full, then that is that. The food is excellently presented and is very very nice. Portions are certainly sufficient, tho if you require more then the buffet at the Jasmine bar is available to fill you up.

Entertainment was very good, with a snake charmer, fakir, and the entertainment team who really enjoy themselves, especially Brian (Ibrahim) and Deina. All the team work very hard to provide entertainment for the guests. This is hotel entertainment, so not expected to be high quality, like Sinatra, but we really enjoyed the entertainment, including the daytime opportunities, like archery.
Also, the hotel cats are real characters. The ginger toms can be frequently seen drinking from the paddling pool, and are quite happy to join the guests for a cuddle on the sunbeds. We named one Billy Big Bo**ocks, A real character. Came back from archery to find Billy curled up on my sunbed! And he was not at all concerned about moving when I got back! Later he was quite happy to jump up on my partner's sunbed while she was there, and get some zeds

EXTERNAL ISSUES (outside the hotel)
Hammamet - definitely worth the trip. Taxi outside the hotel, ask for price first. Into the medina, We were 'collared' by a local 'guide', who gave us info we didn't need or ask for, gave him a dinar, and he asked for more, said no, and that was that, no further pressure. Wander around, it's a small place and eventually you will find a way out.
Nabeul Friday market: this is an absolute must :-) Taxi to Nabeul about 12TD. Wander around, you will get lost. We got into the local market, and it was a brilliant experience! Prices seem to be 5TD, but that is to get you into the shop, then you barter.

Overall holiday experience - VERY GOOD
Overall hotel experience - EXCELLENT

Reason for difference:
On the return flight our luggage was rifled and approx £200.00 of items stolen. This was after check-in at Enfidha airport. Have now obtained Pacsafe security items and will encase luggage in steel mesh. Never before have we experienced theft from luggage after check-in.

Room Tip: Avoid room with connecting door and early rising occupants.

“Nothing to beat it!”

Just returned from one week all inc at this fantastic hotel. My son had been there last year in June, and could not praise it highly enough.
The service from the moment we arrived till when we left was the very best, nothing was too much for the staff. The food selection was vast, the quality excellent, and all presented perfectly.
The grounds were kept immaculately, and all the public areas were clean and litter free.
This is the first time I have ever written a review for a holiday location, and can say that it will be hard to find anywhere better for the money we paid, we will definitely be going back again

“Awesome”

Had my 4th stay at this awesome hotel and will definitely be returning again in the spring. Lovely grounds to explore - a few steps here and there so the less mobile should be warned - but ground floor rooms are readily available. With 24 hour food and drink on an all inclucive basis you can always be eating and drinking. Great beach and 2 swimming pools - one of which is indoors for those odd days when it does rain. Personally i love the Moorish cafe area. Thanks to all the staff - especially the entertainment staff who seem to work 24 hours a day - there is always one or two around even at night.

Room Tip: The newer seaview rooms are worth the supplement and tend to be a bit quieter too

“A wonderful holiday period break at an excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I went on a fully inclusive holiday for the first time over Christmas. A very warm welcome was received by all at the hotel as we filled in our registration cards and given our wrist bands for ID. Within no time I was allocated my room and a porter brought my bags a few minutes later.
The room was more than adequate and was very clean with all the basic amenities (Tip: remember to bring a kettle, tea, etc for the room). It was lunchtime when I arrived. The beachfront restaurant was the venue for lunch and I was impressed by the range of food, and the quality. The food was of a consistently high standard all through the time of my stay at the hotel. As it was Christmas there was a special dinner on Christmas Eve. The staff went above there excellent service to put on a great dinner. In fact there was even a Santa Claus visit earlier in the day arriving in a carriage, when all the children in the hotel received a present.
The occupants of the hotel were an equal mix of French, German and English people. Everyone was friendly and I participated in the activities that were put on by the staff. Again the staff were great.
The large heated indoor swimming pool was a bonus for exercising each day, and there was a lifeguard on duty. There is also a 'Turkish bathhouse' downstairs that was a bonus all very clean. It was great to use the robe available in the room to walk over there, without having to get changed after you shower.
The hotel has its own section of beach that is not fenced off. However, this part of the beach is kept clean and the beach assistant was always there to get you a lounger or chair. I went for a walk further down the beach, where there were large amounts of plastic bottles and wood that had been washed ashore. I was told that they had two storms. They cleaned up after the first one and are yet to clean up after the second one. I did also get 'hassled' by friendly traders who went away after a forceful but friendly 'no'.
I went on this holiday by myself and met some great people of different nationalities. Everyone seemed to be happy and were willing to chat and have a good time. I think the staff and the quality of the hotel went a long way to contribute to the good atmosphere at the time.
The only two things I can pick fault on at the hotel was the gymnasium. All of the machines seemed to be broken! Also the requirement of a corridor carpet to minimise the noise of footsteps late at night. It is only a tiled surface, so you can imagine the 'clip-clop' of high heels at night! (Not mine though.....I'm a bloke!)
However, this was totally overlooked by the excellent facilities, food and attitude of the staff at the hotel. The weather was mild and sunny with the temperatures between 16 - 20 degrees Celsius and only one 'rainy' day.
