Our first impressions weren't helped by the Danish couple at reception complaining about rats. The bamboo bungalow was small compared to previous places we had stayed (on Koh Lanta) that were cheaper. No bed, just a mattress on the floor and a mosquito net. Barely space to put up the travel cot for our 8-month-old. There was a fridge and a recent tiled cement bathroom, but no glass in the windows and a padlock on the door. There were gaps in the planking on the floor and we found cockroaches when we came back in the evening. Mosquitoes weren't a problem once we were inside the mosquito net. For 1289 baht we thought it was poor value (though this did include a buffet breakfast for two). The cement bungalows may be better, but they're twice the price...
The resort itself wasn't really our thing. The dining pavilion was like Butlin's in 60s Britain, with ranks of tables and seating for hundreds. Food was okay, but on the pricey side. We stayed only one night.
More generally, Koh Mook has a problem with waste management. (I nearly wrote Koh Muck - Freudian slip). And the beach, Hat Farang, is not exactly peaceful, with the racket of long-tails plying back and forth from dawn till dusk.
