“Nice hotel, well located, pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

For the cost of staying here, the location is perfect with very close access to a great beach, loads of beach restaurants and bars. Even though it's right at the center of the hustling and bustling area it is unbelievably quiet and is perfect for a relaxing break for a few days. The rooms are clean and the staff just great-always ready to help. It is not at the luxurious end of the scale, but for the amount of time you need to spend in the room it does the job. Wish we had a chance to stay a little longer.

Room Tip: Poolside balcony rooms...first come first serve. Need to book in advance

“So-so place close to Bangla”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed there with some friends for a few nights. The big plus of Expat hotel is its proximity to Bangla Road and all the nightlfe, if that is what you're here for. The hotel is clearly geared towards the male customer. Rooms are ok but don't expect too much. Bed are large and matresses firm. In my room, the safe did not work. Bathroom could have been cleaner. Everything else worked fine. I was unfortunate to arrive at the same time as a few other guests and the staff at the check in clearly struggled to manage. While the service was generally friendly and cheerful, food orders could sometimes take time. The Sports bar is nice for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap.

“great hotel, close to beach and party seen!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

quiet location, 1min to beach and 30sec from bangla rd (where the party's always rockin). good restaurant with English chief, and the sports bar is great with many flat screen tv's for sports. they have a pool tournament every friday that lots of people show up for.

Room Tip: pool side rooms are easy to get to, but a little pricey if on a budget.

“Great comfort at the right price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

I stayed at Expat from December 22-29, 2011. I can safely say that given the price range, it is one of the best hotels I have stayed at. Let me mention below the pros and cons of the hotel.

Pros:
1) Great great location. You can easily walk to the beach, not to mention the markets, the malls and all the various parlors. And it is not on the main road, but down the street at around 1 minutes walk. So this means that the hotel is at a very convenient location, minus the high noise levels of the main road!

2) There is a great big bar with a cool atmosphere and a nice English bar manager. There is Satellite TV there as well, with all kinds of sports including Rugby.

3) The hotel has a swimming pool with a beautiful poolside area, where you can relax.

4) The rooms are clean, with air-conditioning, a mini-bar and clean toilets with hot water.

5) The owner is an English guy by the name of Paul who is married to a lovely Thai woman, Gim. They are both extremely friendly. Also the reservations manager, Aung, is a really nice, hospitable fellow. All of these people make sure that any complaint one might have is immediately rectified.

Cons:
1) The food at the hotel restaurant, though reasonable, is nothing special. Perhaps, that’s not a major gripe because all kinds of restaurants, Thai, Indian-Pakistani, Italian etc are at a maximum 2-3 minutes walk away.

To conclude, I would say that Expat is definitely the place to go. I look forward to returning next year. Great comfort at the right price!

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe rooms with a balcony
