We stayed at the hotel for 4 days and 3 nights in January 2012. We were travelling with our 20 month old toddler. The room we had was the deluxe room located at Blk E on the second floor. Each block has 3 floors and Blk E was one of the nearest to the main lobby and Mangosteen (where breakfast is served daily). There was a total of 8 blocks (A-E), 4 blocks on each side of the hotel lobby.
1) Service
We arrived around noon and was warmly welcomed by the hotel car and the driver. The driver was friendly and warm and presented us with 2 bottles of chilled water upon arrival. It takes 45 minutes to arrive at the Sheraton.
The check in at the front desk service was average and nothing that left a deep impression except for the nice cold hand towels and chilled lemongrass tea that they had served. We had requested for a crib for our daughter but it was not in the room when we arrived. The front desk personnel had to call Housekeeping to send the crib which took about 10 minutes.
The service at Mangosteen, the cafe where we had our breakfast every morning can be slow when they are running full house which we experienced on Day 2. Service was slow and coffee never really came and we had to help ourselves to the coffee machine at the café entrance. But on a regular day, service was better and prompt.
On Day 3 during a very quiet lunch at Mangosteen, we found out that food for toddlers below 3 years old was free from the Kids Menu. This was very attractive however we realized it is not known by all service staff when we had dinner at Malati, their Indian restaurant. We were charged for the kid’s meal and the service staff later removed it after we highlighted it to her.
We had dined at Mangosteen, the Poolside, Malati and room service. We found the food quality at Malati as average and had expected more since it was the most expensive. The rest of the F&B outlets were pretty good. Food quality was consistent and if they are not too busy they can provide some customization to your dish upon request. Of course you can get cheaper food outside the hotel for half the price however we found the quality was mediocre.
2) Room
We stayed in a deluxe room and it had a nice king size bed, flat screen TV, DVD player, coffee/tea making facilities with coffee and tea bags and a day bed to laze on. They also provided a roll away crib for my daughter that met our needs and it included a small pillow and a blanket. Housekeeping service was prompt and replenished our bottled water twice a day. When they saw we had a toddler, they automatically increased the number of bottled water without us asking.
The room was spacious enough for our family and our needs. The bathroom had a bath tub and a vanity counter large enough for your needs. The only inconvenience we had was the shower head was not detachable which can be troublesome when bathing a toddler.
The balcony outside was quite lovely to sit and chill out while admiring the sea view and the large estate where the hotel is located in. The property is large enough even when it is running full house, you don’t feel it is crowded. There are lush greenery around and efforts are taken to ensure the landscaping was maintained. Each morning we are awoken by birds chirping outside our room.
3) Location
It is located in Klong Muang Beach and was within walking distance to mini-marts, massages and restaurants. So you can choose to eat out if you like. However if it rains which we experienced one of the evenings, it is best to stay in the hotel and dine in.
4) Liked Best
I liked the resort was very large and we had a choice of 2 swimming pools and a private beach that is quite well kept and you do not get approached by external vendors. It was convenient for us to step out to eat at other restaurants or get items from the mini marts if desired. The rooms were large and pleasant with the amenities you could need although it is starting to show some age especially in the bathroom. Service in general were good.
5) Liked Least
There isn’t anything negative about the resort and our experience. This is the second time we stayed here. The first visit was back in 2007. However we found that we had to pay for internet service which was a drag and when it gets disconnected a few times throughout the day it was very annoying.
For its location, amenities and service, I think it is a good resort for short term stay and would recommend it to family and friends. If they could offer free wifi throughout the hotel will be the icing on the cake.
