“Pung-Waan is past it's prime”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Love the location. Love the main building, and the breakfast, and the dinner. I was with a group of 20 staying here last week and "some" of the group had good rooms, but the majority of us had dumpy rooms - i.e. 1950ish. Our particular shower was nasty! We called the front desk and four (count them, FOUR) people came to our room to look at the shower. Not one of the four people had any cleaning supplies. They splashed water on the shower walls, looked puzzled, and raised their eyebrows in an attempt to say "OK?". We told them it was ok to leave and they left. It wasn't worth the trouble trying to get our message across to them. The people meant well, but they didn't have a clue what Western standards are like. Thankfully, we were only there for two nights.

I didn't go take a look, but my 28 year old daughter said the pool was EXCELLENT.

If you have another choice in the area, go for it and bypass Pung Waan Resort.

“Lovely setting but no amenities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2010

Eating dinner on the terrace overlooking the lake, with lovely tall trees beyond was magical. The swimming pool was large in a well kept area with ample loungers.
Our bedroom was very large - bathroom dark and nothing special (no bath). The bedroom was lacking in facilities, there were no drawers for putting underwear or tee shirts in, no tea-making equipment. I asked reception for the use of an iron and was told they didn't have one - they have a laundry service. The airconditioning unit in the bedroom was exceedingly noisey.
The hotel corridors were tiled and in the 3 days I was at the hotel all the same marks remained.
The hotel is in a very remote location and it is necessary to take a taxi to go anywhere.

“Wonderful Surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2009

I'd read reviews about lack of English skills in the staff and this is true. The hotel is lovely however and the pool, grounds and the setting next to the river is outstanding and more than compensated us for any language shortcomings. Location is a bit out of town and the 200 Baht tuk tuk fare each way is a bit excessive. Anyone who wants to chill round a beautiful pool for a few days, with comfortable rooms, the odd river trip and journey into town would not find better. Room Internet is exceptionally expensive though, at approx $3.00 for 60 minutes which was the only thing that really ticked me off.

“Probably good in the old days”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2009

Very big resort at the river with a beautiful garden with lots of different flowers. But I think that would be it for the possitive points. It looks like this resort never modernised. The rooms are old and a bit smelly. The staff is friendly, but have no clue what they are doing. Also opud diner en breakfast were not to good and most of the food we wanted to order they didn't have. I think 10 years ago this resort was veryg good, but nowadays a would prefer another resort in the neighbourhood which are much better.
