I am somewhat reluctantly writing this review (mainly because I had a great holiday staying at the Ocean breeze, even thoiugh I agree with some of the recent negative reviews), but hopefully it will give a recent balanced review of this property. I will try and stick to the facts as I see them in relation to recent reviews, however I appreciate we all see things in different ways.
Location I found fine, it is in a quiet street in the Takiab area (doesn't resemble an alley imho), there were some dogs around, but personally I love animals, and they never appeared aggressive towards any member of our party. Yes the area isn't as picture postcard pretty as say Koh Samui or Krabi, but you certainly feel that you are much more part of the real Thailand and it's people. It was a 150 baht, 15 minute taxi ride into Hua Hin centre. There were also plenty of good restaurants and bars all within walking distance.
The property itself has seen better days, it's decor is looking tired and it certainly isn't fitted out to boutique standards. I would actually describe the furniture as simple/rustic. The TV equipment was very old and broadcast only a few western channels. There were two fridges in our bungalow, and the air con was adequate. My brothers bungalow was smaller but was furnished similarly. The bathrooms were clean but again weren't boutique standard, they were very dated, the shower in my bungalow could not really be desribed as a power shower either, more a trickle.
The following claims on various websites though are just not true, the bathrooms are not ensuite, there is just one bathroom in each bungalow and they aren't accessed from the bedroom. There isn't TV in the bedrooms, only in the sitting rooms (I use the term sitting room lightly). There was a fridge/minibar in our bedroom but not in the bungalow my brother and his fiancee stayed in.
The two bungalows are seperated by the road, which we weren't expecting but wasn't a major problem.
The splash pool was very small, and the gardens didn't really lend themselves for sun bathing. The pool in my brothers bugalow did go cloudy whilst staying there and although they cleaned it, judging by other reviews they haven't found a solution yet. Where the garden came in to it's own for us, was it's useable seating area where our party spent many an evening relaxing and drinking.
Breakfast was never a problem for us, the selection wasn't the greatest and sometimes it took 10 minutes to arrive, others nearly an hour for some strange reason. However it was adequate to start the day on.
The staff were always friendly and tried their best to help, communication was problematic at times, but I am always reluctant to complain too much as my Thai is non existent and feel if it mattered so much then it was for me to make the effort and learn some basic Thai, after all this isn't an international resort. Sometimes we did feel a liitle intruded on by the staff as they would just wander into your garden for no apparent reason, and once did enter the bungalow without knocking, to which I feel they got the message I wasn't best pleased and after that always knocked and waited to be invited in.
To sum up, we were really shocked when we first arrived as the pictures of the resort are very flattering if not misleading. However we decided not to let all the resort's faults spoil our holiday and they didn't. Perhaps if it had been just the wife and I on our own staying there, then maybe we wouldn't have been able to see the funny side. However the four of us just got on with it and still do joke about our holiday now. Whatever you expect, get the word 'boutique' out of your mind as it certainly isn't.
