Travelled to Thailand in early November and the plan was to stay in Bangkok for 3 nights then onto Koh Sumui however due to reports of heavy rain there the plan was changed and we booked a stay at the Dhevan Dara resort in Hua Hin through a Bangkok travel agent losing the money on our Bangkok to Koh Sumui flights.
We were looked after during the stay and initially had a presidential pool villa which is 3 seperate bedrooms and a kitchen area and a private pool. It was situated about a 5 minute walk from main reception. The resort was very quiet when we stayed and some further develeopment work was underway near the main pool. This did not affect us however.
Breakfast was included for us and was quite nice witha good variety. Varioius cereals and salads were available as well as a chef to cook eggs or omelettes. Some mornings there were also Thai food such as pork and stickt rice with satays there was also toast and jam and fruits.
We had in villa dining a couple of evenings which was good although the first time was a little on the cool side probably due to the distance from reception. Half way through the stay we were offered a move to another villa due to some strange smells from one of the rooms at the presidential villa. We were actually upgraded to the Royal suite which is near reception so the second in villa dining was much hotter.
There are two restauants on site, a Thai one and an Italian although both were very under marketed and we did not see the Italian even open bar for a private Thai party at the weeked. The site does become busier at the weekend with local people coming and staying over.
Worthy of note is the site wide free wi fi which proved very useful. Pass keys are handed out at reception, there are also two desktop PCs and a printer near the main pool area which are free to use.
The villas are cleaned daily and we had the benefit of comparing both the presidential and royal villas during our stay. The royal villa has more space although list price puts it almost double the presidential suite which I think is on the steep side.
There is a nice BBQ area at the royal suite and outdoor eating area which we did not use and also more waterfalls and fountains!
The staff try to help with any problems and are very polite, you can just about get by in English. We even ordered a Pizza hut one evening but were told by reception they don't deliver as far as the Dhevan Dara but one of their drivers would collect it for us, most helpful.
The resort lay on a free shuttle bus both into Hua Hin town and to a local beach which they call their private beach but it clearly is not. You can book outbound and in bound journeys back to the hotel up to 1030pm. If you want to stay out longer a taxi from Hua Hin costs around 300BHT about £6.
All in all a pleasant stay. If you can get a good priced deal and want to stay near Hua Hin and want peace and quiet then this might be the place for you. Hopefully during other times of the year the resort might be a bit more lively and the resturants might be open as well as the main pool which does have a bar but no one to serve you.
See my youtube page for walk around videos of both the Presidential and Royal suite villas.
