“A quaint and cosy place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

The guesthouse is situated off the main road, down an alleyway which opens up to a small garden with a number of tables and trees, and a row of simple but nice looking rooms. The garden is very inviting, and we saw many guests whiling away their time in it. A bonus is that you can get beers/ drinks and for the majority of time food from the helpful staff.

Rooms were simple with a wet room attached to a nice sized sleeping area. Bed were big and comfy. They were clean, however the blanket we used on one of the evenings as it was a bit chillier, did not appear as clean as the rest. The shower was basic and had to be held in order to aim it at yourself as the clip on the wall aimed it at the wall.

Sheets and towels were not changed throughout our four night stay.

On one of the days we were stuck as to what to do with our time, the guesthouse owner suggested we hire out a moped and gave us a few sites to see. She advised us where to hire from, and was generally very helpful. Needless to say, the day out was fun. She will also book your excursions for you from her immense book of everything possible to see in and around the area.

We walked throughout the town of Chiang Rai soon after our arrival, and discovered our guesthouse was situated in the best area. It was walking distance to the night market, and off a road with plenty of well priced bars and restaurants.

Great value for money.

Room Tip: Book before arrival as she is frequently booked up

“Who needs an alarm clock?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Stayed at Baan Bua for two nights in November. Paid 500 baht for an AC room which in fact I never used. The room was big but basic. No TV. Both the door and windows are protected by screens which hold back those little mozzers we all love to hate. Bed was a tad on the hard side for me but when you've had a day full of activities you'll sleep pretty much anywhere right?

The guesthouse isn't that far from the bus terminal (the city centre one). It is situated behind the Orchid Guesthouse and both are in a not so well lit lane. Just round the corner is a street full of bars, massage points and places to get something to eat. Its about a 5 minute walk to the clock tower and same for the night bazzar.

Breakfast is not included but there is a large selection and very reasonably priced. You must try the scrambled eggs. The best I've ever had!!!!

I agree with the previous Reviewer regarding the cockerel. Unless you want wakened at 5am take ear plugs with you. I would also point out that there is in fact more than one cockerel and I'm sure they were either auditioning for Cockerel Factor or their owner sure likes to get up damn early in the morning because those things could have woken the dead!! (it is funny to hear at first though).

Stayed at the Baan Bua for 2 nights in October.

Pros:

1. Beautiful garden
2. Helpful owners and we booked two tours with them which were excellent
3. Air conditioning was great
4. Clean
5. Very near lots of bars (if that's your thing)

Cons:

1. Room was very old and dark
2. There was a very annoying cockeril hanging around that woke me up every day
3. Breakfast not included
4. There are better value rooms for less money in the area

“Quiet, pleasant, friendly - had a lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

We stayed 6nights here (pd 400bht for air con room). This is a lovely comfortable guesthouse with gorgeous staff - Tim the owner is delightful, very helpful and friendly. Fong (I think that's her name) is the manager and she was absolutely wonderful!

The rooms are basic, but they are reasonably large, ours came with both fan and air con. The shower has good hot water (can be a little slow at times, but nice and hot). Very clean and linen that was in good condition (not scratchy or stained). There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms but free Wi-Fi access in the garden, close to the office- it can be a little doggy at times, especially if cloudy ????

The rooms are screened which is a huge plus especially when the mozzies want to come out to play!

My only negative is that the bed was a little hard, but we still got reasonably good nights sleeps.

The guesthouse is lovely and quiet, great for meeting other travellers with great stories - met some lovely people during our time here, including people who had stayed at the guesthouse numerous times over the years. You know it's good if people come back year after year - we met two couples in our 6days who had done this, plus one chap who'd been twice on his trip this time. The best thing about the location of the guesthouse is that it's far enough back from the street to not hear the noise from all the bars, but it's close enough to the centre of town and all the action.

If we ever return to Chaing Rai, we'll definately be heading back to Baan Bua Guesthouse.

“Lovely Guesthouse with a Charming Little Gardern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Situated in a quiet corner within walking distance from the bus terminal and the night market. Basic clean room with attached bathroom and hot showers. Charming little garden to enjoy the breakfast. Breakfast is not included though, but they served great american breakfast and home-made yogurt with fruits and honey.
