I always thought it was a clichees about Germans getting up in the middle of the night to save the seats: well at the Ocean Breeze it is not and management has no intention what so ever to do anything about it, given the average age is about 55+ they feel these people are to old to be babysat by them. So be prepared to fight for your two square meters of deck chair at the beach and the umbrella's too as the Germans are very territorial and proprietary.
Otherwise pictures are not so good at reflecting reality. Furniture in the rooms is cheap and rickety and you can not even make yourself a cup of tea - standard in most Thai hotels. There is only 1 restaurant, while the website leads you to believe there are three, and getting a seat around 8am can be a challenge. If more than ten people order lunch be prepared to wait for well over an hour for parma ham and melon or spaghetti bolognaise. For dinner they set up the tables in the sand - very beautiful. Unfortunately fish is only bought every other day, so do ask how often it has been hauled out onto the ice for display before making your choice.
The attitude shown by management on the issue of beach beds is found throughout service: they do not really care. Housekeeping and restaurant staff is very very friendly, but does not seem to get much by way of instructions or assistance. Hence, sometimes towels are changed, sometimes not. Sometimes amenities are replaced, more often not. You will get everything if you ask for it though.
The beachfront is a total of 30 meters, so not a lot of space for the 80 or so guests they can accommodate. The ladies offering massages are very nice , but are independent service providers (presumably paying the hotel for the space through some arrangement or other), so you can go there without staying at the hotel. I brought my own towel though as every guest lies on and gets covered with the same towel. they do have new face towels for each guest though. Again, I suppose no one ever told them differently.
The most annoying: they will request a 3% fee if you want to pay by credit card, so it is cash only and all room fees must be paid up-front for the entire stay. At the end they tried to cheat us too. We did not need an extra bed for a couple of nights, though we had initially booked and paid for it. When we advised management that it would not be needed they agreed to refund us. Well, when we got the bill for all the extras, there was no reimbursement and the owners’ wife got very up-set when we noticed and pointed this out, de facto screaming at us, so German/ Austrian courtesy all the way.
It spoilt our holiday a bit for us, especially the end. And Thailand is so much nicer and friendlier than this, with typically excellent service. For the same price we have stayed in five star resorts, so if you are looking for a stress free vacation go look for an alternative!
