We stayed 6 nights in the State House on the upper floor in a wonderful cosy, spacious and quiet room allowing us to retreat and relax. Taking breakfast on the patio in the backyard drinking excellent coffee was a liberating way to start the day. It is not often that you find places like this in any downtown areas. 2 min walking distance from the State House you'll find good eating places with something for everybody's taste. And above all the staff was extremely helpful and did everything to make you feel at home in this historic old house.

I stayed here on business but also to be around the corner from family. I had a very spacious, clean room. The bed was comfortable and the room had real character. I overlooked the nearby park. The lobby is lovely. Breakfast was self serve of cereal, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juice, etc. Great staff!

The Morgan State House is a bed and breakfast with two buildings. One has apartment like units with kitchens, the other is bedrooms without kitchens. Guests in both buildings get breakfast. The Stae House itself has a lovely garden. Across the street is a big, beautiful park. The New York State Museum, the Art and History Institute, and many of New York State buildings are within walking distance. The neighborhood has historic buildings that date back to the turn of the last century or before. I happened to get a room on the top floor with sky lights , and I loved it. The bed was more comfortable than the bed I have at home. I loved the down pillows and down comforter. The bathtub was BIG and inviting. Most impressive to me, though, was the fact that the staff people I met went out of their way to help me feel welcome and pampered. They weren't just saying the right words. They acted as if they meant it.

Room tip: If you have mobility problems, be aware that there is no elevator. There are steps up into the building.

Definitely in need of some upgraded touches - some aspects felt like I was in a New England Grandmother's home (I have one for reference). That said, if a "solid night's sleep on a super comfy bed with beautiful wooden bay windows that cast morning light to awaken thee from a sound slumber" is what you are after, welcome.

Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and location for key business in and around the governmental heart of the city, rather key.

And trust me - the City Beer Hall is within walking distance.

The rooms are in need of updating, e.g. chipped paint, a bit run down in places. Downtown Albany building. OK for an overnight stay. Breakfast was average, some variety but nothing freshly prepared, e.g. bagels, cereal, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, etc.Limited hot water at peak times.
