We booked well in advance and got room 203, with the best views over the lake. We arrived on an early train and were first allowed to sleep upstairs in the restaurant while the sun rose, and then were given a spare room (when it was available) until our room was ready - impressive service!
The staff were helpful in providing sightseeing information. We chose to organise our own transport, though they could have provided it.
The view from our room and from the restaurant is spectacular. Definitely one of the best in Udaipur.
The room was the smallest we stayed in in India, but manageable. The only downside was some very noisy guests in the rooms next to ours. They had the habit of leaving their doors wide open and yelling across the hall to each other - sometimes at 12 midnight and then at 7am. It's not really the hotels fault - they're not responsible for their guests behavior. But it should be noted that both the bathroom and bedroom walls have air vents that cannot be closed. Any noise in the hallway (all concrete and stone) will reverberate into your room, so be warned light sleepers!
I would definitely return here and recommend it to others.
Ask for #203 - it has the best views across the lake.
