“family stay on paradise beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Thanks to everyone at boboi which by the way is in Kartong not Kololi for a fab stay just before christmas. We stayed with our two children aged 7 & 5 in an en-suit hut and loved the wonderful location and great staff. You cant beat being smack on the an amazing white sand beach! I would get up and run with my son at 7.30am every day and we had the beach to ourselves for miles with only Ian and the dogs for company thats good for the soul! ok so down to business:-

Food - great Buba 2 is a fab chef
Staff - fab especially buba 1 and the guy in the beach juice hut who makes super fresh juice and let the kids help
Location - unbeatable white sand and palm trees
Huts - basic but comfortable and clean

Roddy and Dave who own the place are super hosts and I cant thank them enough for a fab stay. Our son used there free surf boards and is now hooked on surfing.

A great place and we hope to come back, one small tip, you need to introduce some fresh water somewhere so that the bees leave the breakfast alone.

Happy new year everyone I miss your smiley faces.

“Great Beach Lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas December 2011.

The location is brilliant, a few steps and you can move from the accommodation to the beach. The beach is great with sun huts and a little beach bar. The beach is also really quiet and we saw very few other people using the bay at all.

The staff too were really good and David, Madi, Buba and Omar were all really helpful.

I would have to agree with leicesterbob (a previous review) compared to other places we stayed at, the accommodation is slightly over-priced - but I suppose you pay for location.

Before we left for the Gambia we were in a real quandary about where to stay in the area as there are a few places that come up positively on Tripadvisor, however Boboi really was a winner and compared to other places we looked at in the area was a real gem.

Definitely worth a visit....

“christmas at Boboi - a family trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This is our third time to Boboi - the first with a teenage daughter. In the past my husband and I have travelled to the lodge alone.

We love Boboi - it sits straight on the beach. The sunsets are glorious. the walk to Kartong along the beach or the road is not too far, but strenuous enough to allow you to enjoy a beer when you arrive.

The staff are superb; Buba, Madi - and David, the owner. It's not easy to run a thriving business in the Gambia - to allow a mix of holiday people to intermingle and hope that energy and fun will emerge. That's what happens. Each and every time. It would be perfectly possible to have a fantastic holiday at Boboi and stay at the camp; eating and drinking in the bar, swimming, and going on excursions arranged by the staff at the camp (mostly Rory, David's son). I feel really refreshed when I wake up in the round hut with the sound of the waves outside.

However, if you want to step out and roam in the Gambia - it's a good place to do it. We have been there a few times and tend to talk to a lot of locals, who we find interesting, unintimidating and so much less of a hassle than further north in the Gambia. Alex's bar is having a new roof evidently. Down at the river, it's a beautiful location to sit and ponder.... There are two bars in Kartong, both of which are basic but friendly.

A word of warnng - the solar lights don't always work. Take a torch and a lantern.
the shower is cold (as is usual in this sort of eco-lodge). It's basic, beach stuff - no need for smart clothes. Think casual. Take a fleece for the evening; and pjs - as it does get cool, which is nice. A star map would be good - as they are like nothing I've seen anywhere else - so utterly fantastic. Walk to Gunjur; travel by bush taxi - it's really friendly; but allow loads of time for everything. And finally - if you go to Senegal - take Sengalese francs or Euros. Sterling and traveller's cheques are useless there; as is Visa.

I love it there, as I say - and feel that I will always return. It's a piece of paradise.

Enjoy!
Anne

Room Tip: We go ensuite - but the shared shower and loo is fine. And some people stay in treehouses and just l...

Firstly this lodge is not in Kololi...it is near Kartong . The lodge is a collection of huts set in the grounds with a central bar/restaurant. I stayed in a hut with seperate bathroom, for a lower price you can opt to use the communal showers, and for a lower price still they have treehouses and camping facilities.
It is situated a short way off the road between Gunjur and Kartong and is clearly signposted. The lodge backs onto the most glorious, nearly deserted beach with a few sunloungers ( real mattresses!!) and sunshades. You can walk along the beach or the tarmac road to the lovely village of Kartong in about 30 minutes. The lodge also has cycles for hire.
The huts are basic but clean and comfortable and have electric light during the hours of darkness. A torch is handy for finding your way back to the hut at night. Phones etc can be charged at the bar. The bathroom was perfectly ok with flush toilet and shower.
A basic breakfast of fruit, bread and jam , tea or coffee is included and you can order omelettes, scrambled eggs etc for a couple of pounds. The evening meal was really very good indeed for about £5 or £6...usually served about 7.30.....the drinks are fairly priced. You can also just call in during the day for lunch or a drink and enjoy the beach.
It is very peaceful here and the staff were extremely helpful....the bill on departure was very detailed and correct .
Truth be told at £30 a night double or £20 a night single this is probably a tad overpriced for the facilities and amenities compared to other local places but once you walk the 6 steps to that amazing beach all will be forgiven and you will have a wonderful time....this would also be a good place to escape the delights of the tourist area for a one or two night stay...just call ahead first to make sure they have rooms.

“Best place to stay in the Gambia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We stayed here in December/January 2010/2011. We had our first week there and stayed in the only room with glass windows. (I'm scared of spiders!) the rooms are basic, no or little hot water and no electricity. This is a back to nature place which allows you to live like the locals. Take a torch, insect repellant and all the medicines you need as you are well off the beaten track!
The round traditional rooms are right on the beach, all a very short walk. We had the beach to ourselves for most of the time. We walked for a couple of hours along the beach one day and met just 1 local lad.
The dogs at boboi are friendly to white people but remember they are local dogs with a job to do so they do bark in the night t times.
The food was nice but a little repetitive. Again remember this is not a 5stat package hotel and you will be more than happy.
Location -perfect! We walked into kartong along the beach and met many local families. The children are inquisitive and want to walk with you and talk to you.
We travelled the length and breadth of Gambia and recommend this place as the one that can't be beaten!

Room Tip: 1room with glass windows if that is important to you
