“Aqua Blu Hotel/ Waterpark Sharm Great holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

Just back from 12 nights in Aqua Blu Hotel/ Waterpark. Great, great value holiday. Kids (OK and us) loved waterslides, and have no lycra left in swimming sostume as a result. Noize of constant poolside music got a bit tiring after a week as did the staff trying to sell dives/sightseeing/beauty parlour etc.

Food fine but we definately needed to get out every 3/4 days to Naama Bay for a quiet meal and independance.

Booked 2 interconnecting rooms but were squished into one family room. Had to be pretty persistant and firm to get moved and were told that there are only TWO interconnecting rooms in the hotel, so be warned if you think this is what you are going to. We moved to a Bungalow which was spacious and tropical feeling and loved it there (bit noizy from baby pool area tho).

We did 2 trips Lazy day snorkelling - quite nice day out but £90 for 4 of us for 20 minutes in the water felt expensive for what it was. Also did the star gazing trip into edge of desert, camel ride (hilarious and scary) drinks and dinner with bedouins then huge telescopes to ee the moon and stars - quite amazing. Same cost £90 for 4 of us and felt like money well spent. Don't buy the £12 video. It is total rubbish and I felt embarassed that I bought it. Wish I could have seen it first!! Fantastic memories tho and kids say it was the best trip ever, despite my 9 year old being terrified of the camels!!!

Aqua Blue a great choice, but remeber it is a 4 star value hotel, not luxuriuous 5 stars. get out every da or so - go visit a resort hotel nearby with a beach - have lunch there, buy drinks, snorkel on the beach and usually they are happy for you to have a dip in the pool. This strategy kept our sanity, even if we spend a little extra on the lovely lunches.

Happy to answer any questions for anyone lucky enough to be heading off there.... Gail

Before I've went to this hotel, I scrutinised all the reviews you guys already contributed. Althoug I'm from holland I want to take the effort to write my review in english, because a lot of the info given here was very useful to me!
First the rooms: we were assigned to a room above the mediterranian/asian restaurant. If you want quiet evenings: thon't go there! Directly ask for another room! You are lookin' out on the Theater, where every night kids disco and late night show are performed. In combination with the quadbikes drivin' around, you won't be able to hear each other talking sitting on the balkony! The next day we got a room above the reception (inside the cirkel) lookin' directly at the terras and the canalboates passing by.Althoug there was live music three times a week, the ambiance was a lot better than in the first room. The room was very spacious, an had a very good working airco. They clean it every day ( I left ten Egypt. pounds on the pillow every day). The reception is very big, with a bar and a lot of sitting space. So you can sit as they are working to get you somebody to collect your luggage and bring it to your room. There is also a bank (to change your money into egyptian pounds) and a machine where you can make withdrawals (Sorry, I don't know the correct word for it). The park is very big, and has a lot of places where you can sit/relax.in the center of the park you'll find the food court. Whatch out....this is not part of the all inclusive concept! I've read the complaints about small plastic glasses where they put your drinks in, there is a simple explanation for this: plastic cups to make sure everybody on the park is safe (no risk of shattered glass anywhere), and believe me: a large glass is to much of cold to drink at once, therefore you'll end up with warm hot left overs..make sure to drink slowly is it's cold. Most ( stomage) problems rise due to throwing it all in at once, you will get punished by the Pharao's curse very quick! Fortunately there is a chemist outside the park (turn right wen you leve the front entrance and walk about 50 meters, it's next to a computer shop). If you want a good rippoff, simply go to the chemist on the park....the restaurants know a reasanoble variety of different salades, bread, meat, potatous and other stuff, but after a week the menu get very repeatative. The Cave du Roi restaurant reminded me of the old days, a big school cantine with lots of noise, people in cue for food everywhere and lot's of people walkin'around. I myself wasn't bothered by the ( masses) Russians and Polish people everybody is warning you about. The mediterranian/asian restaurant thon't serve the food you would expect from the names, the menu is a lot like what you get in de Cave du Roi. Except the french fries(not served in there). For the late snack time there is a restaurant hidden around the corner on the left side if you are standing in front of the med/asian restaurant. It is very small, and the food is poor! Then the slides/pools.....the slides are very much fun! Mu two kids had enough choice goin'down the slide that they liked the most (much variety). There are lifeguards at every slide entrance and at the end of the slides. The will react immediatley if they think there is something goin' wrong, witch is very positive! Althoug the brochures are talkin'about as much as twenty polls, you are actually allowed to swim in some of them, the rest is at the and of slides, and off limit for leisure swimmers. There is a wave pool, where the morning/evening exercises are given. there is another pool, directly at the cave restaurant, with enuogh space to recreate acoompanied by the goofy bar. The other pool is at the right side of the cave restauran, and has the lagoon bar located there. Althouhg reservation of beds is not allowed, people thon't care that about it and do so anyway. Therefor I ended up several times with my stuff in the shade on the ground....Want a bed? be there before 9.00 Am and you'll have a good chance of ending up with some (luxureuos) beds! Make sure you have plenty of suncreme ( factor 50 or higher, otherwise you can end up with seriuos problems of sunburn the first days! Note that this review is about my stay during the high summer period..... Animation is very bad! I'm used to animators walkin'around the park to collect people / children to do fun stuff during the day, but the only "animation" walking around here are the highly irritating people to sell massages/excursions and so on. I've been on a glass boat trip witch I did with the Grotta Azura ( located on the park), and felt like a total ripp off! to much people on the boat, lausy location ( did not see any fish worth mentioning) and at the end of the trip we where to leave the boat as soon as possible, almost thinkin the boot whas on fire.....The parasialing was nice (also booked by Grotta Azura). There is a bar at the beach, witch you can reach by shuttlebus leaving every ten minutes or so. When you get out of the elevator turn right, and walk appr. 150 meter, you will find a beach bar wich is part of the all inclusive deal of Aqua Blu. If you compare this to the other bars you will pass along the way, I think this one is very poor. lausy food, and the same ( sirup) drinks as in the hotel. In general, we had a very nice vakation, but to be honest, this park is a bit to massive for us. There is little room for personal contact with the staff, they are always interested in bakshis( tips). They work about ten hours a day, staing in the hotel and sleep with six persons together in one room, earning little money.
Look at the pictures I've taken during the holiday, the will give you an idea about the park in general and the bar at the beach. If you want adittional info, contact me, and I'll see what I can do for you!

“We all loved it - good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

Having read mixed reviews, I was feeling quite anxious about going to this hotel, however, we all had a lovely time. We were a family of 4 (boys aged 5 and 8) who travelled with friends with kids the same age plus a baby.

We got there late at night and the transfer from the airport to the hotel was a bit long winded with tired kids in tow. It was a bit of a culture shock that people at the airport and the man putting the cases on the bus were sticking their hands in our faces for tips (despite the fact that we'd actually carried our cases out to the bus!) - we gave him a couple of English pounds which he looked at in disgust (this is all we had in our pockets!). Having read other people's reviews, I thought perhaps this was going to be how it was for the rest of the holiday, with people expecting tips constantly, however, once at the resort it was absolutely fine (we tipped at the end and got perfectly good service). We were initially put in a family room, which didn't have a balcony and the window faced onto the main road - I wasn't best pleased as the Egyptians have some strange obsession with honking their horns while driving at all hours and we had a very disturbed night. Spoke to the Deputy Manager the following morning who was very nice - there were no other rooms available that day but if we could be patient for one more night, he would get us a nice room. Following day, he was good to his word. My two boys loved the slides (so did we!) and my 8 year old was fine to go off with his pal on the slides as there were plenty of lifeguards around. Getting sunbeds was a bit of a pain. First morning, we managed to find 1 at about 10.30am so from then on, my husband did get up early to ensure we had beds where we wanted them. The kids pool was brilliant. My little one and his friend were in there all day playing - plenty of kids slides, a swing, jets of water etc and all knee height on an adult so very safe. We did find that after the first week, the kids got bored of the slides and we spent more time around the quieter pools. Beach was ok. Not your traditional beach with waves lapping the shore line - it's a man made beach with steps down to the water but I actually quite liked it. It was clean, it wasn't over-crowded. The beach bar did drinks all day and pizza, chips, salad, bread rolls over lunch. Take snorkels with you. Even in shallow water, the fish are amazing. I will always remember the sight of my 8 year old with a bread roll being swamped by literally hundreds of fish - angel fish the size of side plates, massive rainbow fish, puffer fish, little Nemo type fish - it was absolutely stunning.

I can be a bit picky but found the food to be fab. I'm not sure what people could complain about as there was a huge selection. The main restaurant could get busy but we never had to wait too long for a table. The Italian did gorgeous pizzas, delicious chicken tikka at the Asian and a mixture, including freshly made pasta in the Mediterranean. We tended to eat at the Med mostly, as the kids could go and get a fresh pizza from the Italian around the corner and bring it in, the guys were filling their boots with tandoori chicken, fish etc at the Asian and bringing it through so everyone was happy. Plenty of salads and loads of delicious puddings (not good as I far too many!). Most of us did get Egyptian belly in varying degrees - I got away lightly with one day and night, but from then on was absolutely fine. Similar with my friend however, it lasted longer with the guys. My husband had it the best part of 8-9 days and is still dashing off to the toilet now (and we've been back for 2 days!!). However, it didn't detract too much from the holiday as it wasn't bad enough to be cooped up in bed and he continued to eat and drink beer so it can't have been too bad!

We did a couple of trips. Went camel riding and got to do some quad biking (booked through Sokar Safari around the pool). Did the snorkelling boat trip, which for me was a highlight. Paid £90 for two adults and 2 kids, which included food and drink and was worth the money. Transfers for trips appeared a bit disorganised but once there, was absolutely fine. I've never seen such clear waters and the fish and corals were lovely. Kids had great fun leaping of the top of the boat and we ended up with some lovely photos off the onboard photographer (we paid £15 for 50 pics - he asked for £30 - you can get most things for half the asking price).

Mostly very positive. Only little things to moan about - the glasses are very small. It was so hot but you'd get a drink and it would be gone in three gulps!! We generally got a couple of drinks each, but because there were 4 adults and 4 kids in our group, that was a lot of drinks and they didn't like giving us that many! However, don't worry about ice cubes - they are definitely made fom mineral water. Also, the entertainment - or lack of it! This didn't really bother us, as by the time we'd had our meal, we settled down with some drinks while the kids played at the park. However, if you do like entertainment in the evenings, you may be left wanting. What litlle we saw was quite bad... Our kids didn't want to go in the kids club as again, it looked rubbish. We saw a couple of kids walking around behind the woman running it - waving flags while she tried to make them sing .... However, this did act as a good incentive for the kids to behave with the threat of kids club hanging over them!!!

There was a good mix of English, Russian, Germans and a lot of Arabs too. While most people waited their turn to get a ring or mat for the slides, it tended to be the Arabs who muscled in ( the women were the worst) and we did have to stand our ground to get them. People have commented about different groups of people pushing in at the restaurants. We didn't really find that - the restaurants are big enough and there was enough food not to worry about qeue jumping! However, we did notice on the boat trip that the Russians and Germans were incredibly greedy. Food and drink was included. Plenty of bottles of fizzy drink and water with cups so you could help yourself. However, while they were doing the safety talk when we set sail they were going and grabbing 2 or 3 bottles of coke and fanta etc to themselves rather than sharing - very greedy. Same with the food. We took smaller portions initially to make sure there was enough for everyone - they were literally shoving in and piling their plates up - very rude. The guy came around with melon slices - we all took 1 or 2 slices - there was a chubby Russian boy who literally was scooping the tray with both hands - very irritating!!

However - overall really good holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would def go back to Sharm El Sheikh. Not sure if I'd book this hotel as the kids did get bored of the slides and it was the waterpark which boosted the price. Perhaps we would book another hotel and do day trips to the water park...?

Final note - we flew with Viking Airlines. Had never even heard of them and again read a few bad things about them but we thought they were fine. Flights both ways were on time and no problems with check ins etc. Only point was that we had a night flight back. After a long day in the sun, we were all shattered and wanted to sleep but they had the aircon on full blast and we literally had goose bumps! Loads of people asked them to turn it down but then people at the front of the plane were complaining it was too hot! I suppose you can't please all the people all the time! They did sell blankets for £5 (I'd take a small blanket with me next time). Also, buy some food and drink at the airport to take onboard as it was expensive on the plane.

If you have booked this holiday, please don't worry - you will have a lovely time. After 2 weeks, I could happily have stayed for another few days (except I may not have fitted back in my jeans with all the gorgeous food!).

“A Great Place To Stay”

We have just returned from the Aqua Blu Resort and had a great week away. Our reason for choosing this resort was because we had our thirteen year old son with us and wanted somewhere where he could make friends and not become bored. The slides were amazing and lots of fun, we stayed on the resort every day apart from one as it kept our son fully entertained. The food was good with four different restaurants to choose from and the complex was clean. The rooms were good although our bathroom was a little tatty. The maid was great with clean bedding and towles every day and bottled water. The staff were friendly and very helpful, some more that others. If you are looking to going to Sharm and are a family with kids then i would fully recommend this resort.
