“Relaxing Time”

We stayed at the Domina Aquamarine for a week, the room was large, clean and had most things you needed, it was however lacking an in room safe we ended up locking valuables in out suitcase for a week which is not ideal also tea & coffee making facilities would have been nice.
The pool was lovely lots of sun beds & umbrellas and the towel hire service was a good idea, the beach was about a 5 min walk from our block bit of a shame you couldn't get from the beach to the water due the proctected coral but there is a floating pontoon which allows you go get into the sea and go snorkelling, which i would strongly recommend the fish are amazing.
We went half board and on refelction i think i would have paid more and gone all inclusive. We were allowed to eat in 3 out of the 11 restaurants without any extra charge if you wanted to eat in any of the others there was an allowance of 69 egyptian pounds enough to get you half a main course. The main Coral buffet restaurant was fine but the food was basic and not very varied, most of the guests were Russian and Italian and they seemed to be piling up thier plates so perhaps the food was aimed more at the the. The drinks are very expensive as all hotels only serve imported brands so unless you are all inclusive i would recommend buying duty free and drinking that.
We went for a relaxing week so were content with sitting on the balcony of an evening drinking out own drinks which obviously worked out cheaper.
We ventured out of the resort to Naama Bay about 15 min taxi ride away, pre arrange a price and be firm and you'll be fine, we went during the day and to be honest i couldn't wait to get back we were hasselled from the moment we arrived till the moment we left but apparently it is much better in the evenings very lively.
I would suggest taking a trip to Cairo well worth the money but a massive culture shock the whole place is extremely dirty but if you stick with a tour it's totally worth it you can't go all that way and not see the pyramids, sphinx and the egyptian museum.
If you decide to go to Sharm or indeed anywhere else in Egypt i would keep in mind
1, mosquitos are everywear take plenty of repellant and use it,
2, everyone expects to be tipped, if you don't want to tip don't use the service
3, teh food & drink prices are not much cheaper than the UK go all inclusive if possible - it'll be worth it in the end
4, take the time and go to Cairo for the day - totally made my holiday
Overall the resort was fine , clean with friendly staff and everything you needed for a relaxing week in the sun.

“Good for a relaxing break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2007

I really enjoyed my week here. The complex is lovely - it's made up of several different Domina hotels including Oasis, Sultan and Prestige. It is pretty big, so there are little buses "taf tafs" to get around. There are quite a few restaurants, a nightclub, a spa, a souk etc. It is set up so you could spend your whole time on the complex, but we went into Sharm and Naama Bay or to other hotels in the evenings by taxi to eat out.

We just had bed and breakfast. If you are on half/full board, check out what you get as I think it's just an allowance towards the meal and you may have to pay some extra for your meal.

There was a choice of pools - 2 very close to where we were staying and the main pool where there were more activities. There was also the beach where there were floating walkways with seawater pools which also gave access to swim in the sea. I had no problem getting sun-loungers at any time.

It was easy to book various activities eg boat trips to go snorkelling/diving.

The room was a good size with a balcony with a great view over the sea. I had no issue with the cleanliness - it was cleaned daily. The staff were friendly and helpful but didn't hassle me. Sometimes you may need to chase up requests eg to get laundry delivered back quickly.

If you're thinking of staying here, be prepared that Aquamarine Pool is not actually 5 star standard, and expect that there will be a lot of Italian and Russian guests. If you're happy with this, then I think you'd also have a great time.

“Very enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2006

Its a huge resort, very picturesque, many types of restaurants and on site activities. Rooms were large, clean, well maintained but jaded in places. On site we had a lot of fun swimming, sun bathing, snorkeling, diving, playing tennis and pool and eating in the many restaurants. Coming here without the HB option will land you in trouble or more likely in Naama Bay for every meal. HB option allows you free eating and drinking in 3 of the 12 restaurants and 50% off in all the other restaurants.
We were here in December so between 10am and 4pm it is sunny bright and warmish but on days the fresh sea breeze can make it feel cooler. Need a coat in the early morning and evenings.
Staff were friendly and helpful, although they constantly expect tips they are pretty civilised if you dont give any or give token amounts. Most of the tourists are Italian and Russian and entertainment is catered for them but that didnt bother us, in fact the Brits / English speakers were more friendly to each other as a result.
Better to book trips and excursions like st catherine, coloured canyon, quad biking (all 3 a must), etc from Naama Bay tour operators as hotel and western tour operators rates are daylight robbery.
I am glad I paid the extra to come to Aquamarine as I met people in the basic option Oases who were not entirely happy.
Two main complaints, the pools are only sometimes heated, its a problem if you are here in December. I dont know why the hotel tries to save money on such an item. Also you have to pay Euro 20 every time you want to do a Gym workout. However a 1/2 hour body massage pool side is good value at £12.
All in all my family (incl 3 kids) and I enjoyed ourselves very much. One has to be street wise, dyor and curtail some desires otherwise you can get ripped off.

  • Liked — very picturesque, lots of amenities,
  • Disliked — cold swimming pools, pay extra for gym workout, coslty tours/excursions/activites
  • Tips/Secrets — be streetwise and look for value in the multitude of options available, research well

“5 star!! What a joke!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2006

I cannot agree more with the comments of the person who has reviewed below. From the moment we landed in Sharm to the moment we left we felt completly ripped off and will never return. Luckly unlike the person below, we prebooked transfers but heard in the resort off a couple being charged £30 one way from the airport!! what a joke. The Domina was such a disapointment, where do I start?!. Tips, tips, tips all the time-everyone is after them. I have stayed in better $20 motel rooms in the states. They are tired and old and the bedspread is like a piece of old carpet they have ripped up from the floor. In the brochure they boast all rooms have a ''seaview'' we got a view of a dusty old road. Watch out for the cleaners knocking on your door to fold a towel into the shape of an animal and then charge you for the privilege. The food was the worst I have probably ever tasted on a HB deal. Everytime we went to the Coral restaurant we had to ask for cutlery as they never had enough staff to clear the tables, at breakfast I started to give up and had to resort to spreading jam on bread with a teaspoon. As said below, the prices in the hotel are daylight robbery. The resort is boring in the evenings, all the entertainment is based around the Italian and Russian guests. The positive side is the pool which is well maintained. Just watch out for the sunbeds-we saw at least one person a day fall off them. We will never return to Sharm and will definetly stick to Dubai in the future.

“Definitely Noy 5 Star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2006

Having read the other reviews, both before and after our visit, we must all have stayed at a different place!! This is actually the equivalent of about 4-5 hotels on a vast site (around 1800 people). Yes the staff were mostly helpful(especially if you continually tipped them) and the room clean but the place clearly has problems. We arrived around 10 p.m. and agreed a price for a taxi to the hotel - we were going to be charged £11 which was high but we were tired. Magically the price changed to £22 during the 5 minute ride. We argued the point but the taxi driver would not give in (and even tried to demand a tip) and the hotel were no help at all although we asked them to help. This was the start of a holiday during which we felt ripped off on a daily basis both inside and outside of the resort. If this type of thing doesn't bother you then by all means go here. Expect to pay at least double the price on the resort for everything - drinks, food, clothing gifts etc. Outside of the resort may be cheaper but you need to be very careful as the culture is to get as much money as possible out of what they see as walking wallets. The "5 star" rooms have no kettle, no iron, the "safe" is your mini bar - which in some rooms actually has a key (a whole new meaning to frozen assets), and the mini bar holds water and cola which it keeps barely cool. There are no baths only showers and they run out of hot water when everybody leaves the poolside to shower fir the evening - mine had mould round the tiles. The entertainment concentrates on the Italians and Russians. There was really very little to do in the evenings. The pyramids etc are truly worth a visit, Luxor is nicer than Cairo. The resort is very large but well kept and the Taf Taf buses are always around to transport you. The food was as you might expect from an extremely large resort - not often hot and of variable and sometimes poor quality. They can't do meat - it was almost always tough. We were hugely overcharged (even by London standards) for a T-bone that was unedible. We were all glad we went but disappointed in our treatment and would not return to this resort.

  • Disliked — The ants everywhere
  • Tips/Secrets — Bring a kettle and buy your own drink and take them with you.
