I just came back from a break at Club Magic life in Sharm. I was very impressed overall and would definitely recommend it. I have stayed in Sharm before at an Egyptian rated 5* so my expectations had been set low in the past. Despite this we wanted some winter sun and not a long flight so we trusted to the reviews of this hotel.
On arrival I was impressed, the greeting, lobby and arrival process was very organised. Our accommodation was nice, quality furnishings and fabrics, the room is a good size, nice bathroom with a decent shower and a really large and comfy bed. The restaurant is excellent, spotlessly clean and again very well managed. We were bowled over by the effort that goes into setting the theme for the restaurant every night, the presentation of the food and food sculptures is amazing. The food quality is excellent the variety available is also excellent. We could not fault the main restaurant or the theme restaurants. We ate at all the theme restaurants, they were really lovely. There is a set menu so the food courses arrive if you want them or not! I did find I couldnt eat all the food. The Service in all the restaurants and bars is superb.
The staff at the hotel are very efficient, very helpful and really nice. They all work so very hard. We were pleased that tipping is encouraged in tipping boxes that can be shared by the whole team, thats only fair since the amount of effort that goes into the preparation and presentation of the food and drinks is a team effort. As advised on trip advisor we took a load of £1 coins and tipped after every meal, trip to bar etc. It doesnt cost much over a week and the money makes such a huge difference to the staff. Its nice that you dont feel you have to tip, you do it because you want to. If you ever need any coins then you will find the staff all need to change them into notes so its easy to make the trade.
Because I have experienced Sharm before I wasnt expecting much in the way of coffee or alcohol. Thankfully this hotel has a lovely coffee bar in the tower and most of the bars serve fresh brewed coffee. The alcoholic drinks are non branded and what UK residents would consider home brew standard. The hotel does a very good job of mixing it up into tasty cocktails that help you forget the quality of the alcohol. The beer and the wine were acceptable.
The pools and saunas are all very nice. We used the sauna and steam room a lot.
Whilst staying at the hotel I became seriously ill at 4 am. I should clarify that the illness was not related to the hotel in any way. We called reception who sent the doctor who was there in only 10 mins and was a really good doctor. He had everything he needed to help me on site and give me medication which he had ready in his clinic. We settled the bill right away and felt the bill was most fair.
This time after advice on this website we didnt take any Egyptian, Sterling, Euros etc are all accepted everywhere.
My top tip would be when landing at the airport if you arent planning to leave sharm then dont bother queuing for the visa, go straight for the passport control and you will find there are landing cards to complete on the table tops.
This hotel could be improved as follows:
1. In room entertainment facilities should be improved by adding a film rental service
2. There should be a kettle in the room and the fridge should be stocked with water and drinks.
3. The hotel should utilise the indoor spaces more in winter, its mainly geared up for you to sit outdoors at night, it was chilly and so all the indoor bars filled up so we were forced to go back to our room :-( The reception lobby area should be setup as another bar for winter evenings.
4. An option of proper ground coffee should be offered in the main restaurant instead of poor instant. coffee. A decent cup of coffee at breakfast is a basic right surely :-)
5. Better presentation of the cocktails, salt/sugar around the rim of the glass would help specially with a margarita. Perhaps get the waiters to watch the film cocktail and prepare the drinks with more of a flourish.
4. The steam room needs to be freshened up, it needs maintenance and didnt smell clean and it would help if you added essential oil to the steam to enhance the experience.
Sharm El Sheik itself desperately needs some quality entertainment. A decent water park would be a good start. And Neama Bay has only got worse, wall to wall rubbish for sale in the shops and all the shops sell the same stuff. This place needs to be cleaned up and a better variety of merchants encouraged to set up shop. We were looking for some nice quality crafts, clothing, art, handmade cosmetics. We walked around the place with plenty of money in our pockets there was simply nothing at all worth buying.
