We've just returned from a week at the Club Magic. Flew with Thomsons from Birmingham - we were aware that Thomsons now don't do on flight entertainment and meals so that wasn't a problem and they did still offer hot snacks and drinks.
We arrived at the hotel 10pm, good efficient check in. We were told that the Magico buffet restuarant would be open for midnight snacks at 1130pm - we thought this was just on arrival days but it was every night. Small hot selection but perfectly ample and at least if you don't eat on the plane you'll know you'll still get fed!
We were in block 20, room 20111, garden view, with terrace, nice quiet area, not far to the relax pool. We would get up in the mornings and collect a latte to bring back to the room before breakfast. Yes the waiters do fret that you take the cups and glasses away but they got used to us doing it and we always stuck to our promise of bringing them back which was fine.
The room was a bit dark but this would probably be welcome in the height of summer. Plenty of light in the bathroom for putting make-up on etc. Fab shower, hairdryer OK but ladies if you have long hair take your own as it is slow. Nice flat screen TV, bed massive but quite hard. One of us slept well and the other didn't, so that's just personal preference.
The facilities really are all inclusive! Weve been to other AI hotels but everything was included here, Internet cafe, Al a carte restuarants, sporting equipment, the sauna and steam rooms in the wellbeing center including the weights. Only treatments were to be paid for (booked to your room) - an hour long full massage cost £40. On a par with British salons! The Eagles bar did do branded drinks also in the AI package if you didn't like the own brand. Wine was fine and the beach bar was the best for measures!
Food excellent - freshly cooked in front of your eyes morning, noon and night, salads, fruit etc. Cant understand people who say they couldn't find anything to eat! Different theme every night, we really looked forward to seeing how the staff had decorated the resturant out. Carved figures out of fruit and veg the norm. Be aware that it does shut at 9pm so if you are late you do have to rush as they do start moving the food prompltly - but hey...like we said its open again at 1130pm for midnight munchers. We tried the Thai resturant which was amazing. Wonderful service, huge portions in the evening and really good at lunchtimes too. A nicer romantic ambience than the main buffet also.
The pools were both in quite a bit of shade and we did witness a few arguments between people who were trying to cram themselves into the sunny pockets. We stayed at the beach which was gorgeous. Impeccably clean, with your own lounger and windbreaker, felt quite private and sun all day long! Water as you would expect, clean, with fishes but if you want to swim you need to go to the end of the jetty where the water is deeper (25m), so if not a strong swimmer stick to the pool. Beach is ideal for kiddies paddling but they would need sea socks as there are lots of rocks and corals in the shallows. If you still want to see the fishes but not confident snorkelling try the Seascope excursion, a submarine type boat for £35, amazing!
We went to Naama Bay on the shuttle bus, good value. Very commercial with all high street outlets, ie TGI Fridays, Hardrock cafe, Pacha etc. If you dont like hassle and bartering give it a miss but it is worth doing to experience true Egyptian modern life. Women can feel a little vulnerable if they are on their own but I felt fine with my partner who was a whizz at bartering and got some good deals and once I got into the swing of it I really enjoyed the bars, shisha pipes (non addictive, non harmful) and everyone was friendly.
We didn't experience much of the entertainment at the hotel but plenty did go to the ampitheatre where shows were put on and we didnt hear any negative comments.
For the money we paid it was excellent value for a good hotel, truly fully AI, guaranteed winter sunshine and well worth a visit. We would recommend it.
