“A great sunshine break”

The Grand Sharm is a great place for a value holiday - you get what you pay for and it's reasonably priced! The rooms are clean, spacious and the towel and petal creations of the housekeeping staff are a delight to come in to after a hard day's sunbathing and snorkeling!

The food isn't great in the hotel, or in most of Sharm to be frank, but on the bright side - we didn't gain the usual half stone that tends to ruin the "look at how tanned we are" effect on our return! Lunch at the poolside is the best we found within in the hotel.

The snorkeling is incredible and it's right on the hotel's doorstep - wonderful coral and fish. We also took a boat trip to Tiran Island - organised by Sun'n'Fun on the beach at Naama Bay. The lunch was cooked freshly on the boat and it was one of the best meals of our stay and the guides were charming and friendly.

The sun lounger 'issue' was hilarious - to the extent that when sitting on the balcony at 4.30am watching the sun rise we enjoyed many guests planting their towels to book the best spaces. However, we beat them to the next day ....after a night out we got in at 3.30am and decided to book our own- much to the amusement of the security guards who thought my poor boyfriend was about to start his sunbathing day in the moonlight
.
Anyway, do go snorkeling, do try the quad biking (not for the feint hearted), do try a boat trip. But do not expect great food, good driving by taxi drivers, or fabulous hotel entertainment.

You will be word perfect to 'Lady in Red' and 'Careless Whisper' by the last day relaxing by the pool, but I would still recommend the Hotel Grand Sharm to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a well priced, clean and friendly hotel. Just don't forget your Ipod!

  • Liked — great snorkeling right at the hotel
  • Disliked — the food
  • Tips/Secrets — make sure you get small denomination Egyptian notes for tips and be prepared to get up ridiculously earlt to get a sun lounger!

“great hotel”

Have recently returned from our honeymoon at the Grand Sharm and we loved every minute of it. Only had the bed and breakfast option because we like to get out and try different restaurants. Breakfast was always good, ate far too many pastries and way too much nutty bread though. A special mention for Hisham, "computer says no" was his stock answer every morning when we asked for "2 teas please" he always made us smile.
The hotel was spotless and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We were expecting a sea view but got the ground floor behing a tree with no seaview, we were offered a swap the next day and although it had a sea view it was noisy, so stayed where we were. We were out everyday and only sat on the balcony late at night so didn't really need a sea view anyway.
We always managed to find a sunbed on the beach, but to be poolside you need to get your towels out before 7 a.m. This is a problem that needs sorting, we have been to hotels where towels are removed by the staff, this way everyone gets a chance at the best sunbeds.
A big thankyou to Sameh, the wandering salesman, he talked us into the romantic dinner which we really enjoyed. Sameh always had time time for a chat and made everyone smile. His brother was nice too :-)
Had 2 meals at the Italian terrace restaurant, they were very good quality and a reasonable price. The staff were excellent once again, especially Mohammad and ibrahim. The only fault i have with this hotel is the entertainment, very dated and boring and guaranteed to make you sleepy.
The hotel is in a good position, it's just a short taxi ride to bars and shops and only a short walk to Fantasia. We went to the show and buffet there, cost about 36 quid for 2, my advice is don't bother. The food was not that good and the show was awful, there are better ways to spend the evening. Walking round Sharm, Na'ama bay or fantasia shops soaking up the atmosphere is a good way to pass a few hours of an evening.
We loved the hotel and the area and can't wait to go back there soon.

“Wouldn't rush back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2006

Did you know that at the ibertol grand sharm that a sea view does not mean you can see the sea!!!

We were really looking forward to our holiday in egupt a week in the sun the only weeks holiday we were to have all year, we were really excited, the photos of this hotel looked excellent. We thought we'd book a sea view at the red sea was told to us a beautiful sight, and whats better than waking up to looking out on the balcony to see the sea, and a top floor so we got a good view and we booked a double bed.

When we arrived all seemed good reception staff seemed helpful, fresh towels were given to you as you arrived, we then got to our room and went down, to the ground floor, we did tell the staff member we booked a high floor, but we went to the room any way and oh my god the smell! we were told it wa a non-smoking hotel and this room stunk, espcially as non-smokers the curtains smelt the whole room made me feel sick. Then we though get some fresh air opened the patio doors and OH! were's the sea view!!! we asked the staff member and hw said this is a sea view. we replied but where's the sea! all we could see was the back of a notice board and some trees and grass!
We went back to reception and told them, they said they had a much better room they would take us to see this room. the view of the sea was much better. right ok looked promising.
It was stil ont he ground floor and two doors from the previous room. Well we firstly noticed there was no smell but it had twin beds, we ordered double, but lets look at the view. once again where is the sea!! all we could see was a path grass and back of trees that lined the pool. not much of a sea view.

Went backt o reception again, and explained that we booked a double room sea view top floor. They said sorry we are full. and we didn;t book a double, i showed him our paper work and he didn't care. We said a sea view in england meant you can see the sea. He said not there a sea view meant the side of the building that faced the sea, but you can't always see the sea. what rubish.

They said two days they would have a room, this one was one storey up but no sea view faced a building and twin beds again, we stil hadn't un packed and were really pissed off by now. the next day we have another room for you and well we told them what to do with their room.

Our double sea view top floor, was now a ground floor twin with garden view if you could call ir that, with large ants eating at everything.

The hotel also does not allow any food or drink from outside the hotel what a con. i suggest what we did there are supermarkets just down the road take your rucksack and fill it! oh and the mini bar never has anything in it. the food choice for lunch is very limited. breakfast was great best bit, when you can find a table set.
And don't go all inclusive at this hotel we were glad we didn't we eat at this hotel one night it was american night, but all they had that was slightly american was chips and jacket potatoes, no choice in food. eating out its cheap and you can get a taxi very cheap to naama bay or old sharm, but use the taxi's supplied by the hotel much safer. to eat out at i.e. columbus very nice i may add just outside of the hotel it was for two meal and drinks about 6.50!

One last thing do not go to fantasia its just down the road from this hotel its food and entertainment with a horse show. but when we were there they used metal spikes on their heals to dig into the horses belly to make them dance and this one horse was pouring with blood. trust us we walked out.

make sure your ready to be badgered by the eguptians for money tips taxi's etc they don't give in.
we plan never to return to egupt again.
The hotel is deffinately not a 5 star its a 3/4 max. we've been to dubai in 5 star and well there's no comparison.

the people here are only nice to you when they want money even in the hotel.

But if your booked at this hotel, the romantic meal on the beach is the best meal you'll get in the hotel.
if you havn't booked yet don't!!

  • Liked — cleaner made swan's flwers etc with towels ont he bed and put flowers on the bed.
  • Disliked — the lie about the sea view!
  • Tips/Secrets — make sure you get what you pay for don't settle for less. take a ruck sack for your food and drink
