“Heaven on Earth. Very special little place, we will be back...”

Beautiful experience, beautiful place, beautiful people.

We have just returned from a week at Sayadeen, and this holiday will forever hold a special place our hearts. Having stayed in a 4/5* all inclusive hotels in Sharm El Sheik, the two experiences cannot be compared. Sayadeen is everything that Sharm lacks... Peace, Beauty, Soul, Character, and friendly people who never hassle you to buy things/tip everywhere you go.

Although Sayadeen looks stunning on their website, it still exceeded all our expectations. The building style is so pretty and in keeping with nature (no ugly modern high-rise buildings). These are more like rustic beachfront bungalows. The rooms are basic, but very comfortable, with excellent air conditioning, and our front door opened right onto the beach. The view from the room was incredible, and we were steps from the red sea and the beautiful natural beach. The Bedouin style seating areas on the beach (cushions and low tables on the floor) have to be THE most relaxing place I have ever sat, and an incredible place to seek shade from the midday sun. We ate dinner here every night too, looking out at the beautiful red sea (which the staff illuminate with a flood light at night time, so you can watch the lion fish and calamari from the shore).

We took nearly 1000 pictures at the hotel! Everywhere you look you cannot help thinking “that would make a stunning picture”.

Despite the fact that this area is hundreds of miles from the recent political unrest in Egypt, the troubles seem to have had a knock-on effect to tourism, and this meant that we seemed to be literally the only guests for the majority of the week. We had all the staff and facilities at our disposal, and what felt like our own stunning beach, just for the two of us. Ultimate tranquility, rest and relaxation.

The housekeeping staff Aziz and Mostafa put incredible effort into surprising us with towel art every day …They spent hours creating all kinds of very creative surprises for us, which far surpassed anything we have ever seen elsewhere, and it was a lot of fun popping to the room every day to see what they had done. They even left an acoustic guitar as part of the decoration one day, and let me keep hold of it for the day/night (which was lovely as I am a professional guitarist!)

The rest of the staff are just as exceptional, and a very special mention/thank you goes to ‘Bob’ at the beach bar. A kind and genuine man, who really looked after me when I was unwell (NOT food poisoning). He also took us out to town with him one night after work and treated us to tea and shisha. After a week at Sayadeen he felt like part of the family, and really made a difference to our trip.

The food was great and always cooked fresh for us. We stuck mainly to fresh grilled fish and rice, which was always served with pitta and dips, and fresh salad. The meal times were whenever we wanted to eat, wherever we wanted to eat …and not once did we have any complaints about the food. It’s safe, fresh, healthy, and tasty.

The hotel has a beautiful Horse which we rode up and down the beach, and various water craft you can use at a cost (we found this to be a little too expensive, but after telling them this, we were given the pedalo free of charge for a while ...anything to please).

The only minor down-side to the location is that the hotel beach itself does not have much coral for snorkelling. There is however, a lot of life to be seen at the couple of small patches of reef there, and the lack of coral on the rest of the beach actually just means it is excellent and safe for swimming. ‘Pete’s reef’ as described by others on this site, is a tiny patch of coral to the left of the main beach (towards the port). Just look for the dark patch on the surface, you can see it from the hotel. A two minute walk, and home to the biggest lion fish I have ever seen. In addition to this, I found my own slightly better reef even closer to the main hotel buildings, and straight off the private beach. I hereby name this ‘Ross’s Reef!’ When facing the sea, the reef can be found straight out from the furthest wooden seating platform to the right (almost where the private beach ends and the bedouin village begins). Swim straight out from this platform 100m or so (further out than Pete’s, but a lot more variety of fish to be seen, and only a couple of minutes swimming). There are also some excellent reefs a very short taxi ride away in either direction. We tried the one just on the headland, at the foot of the mountain. The local Bedouin driver employed by the hotel drove us out there for about £5 a head, and waited whilst we snorkelled for as long as we liked, before driving us back via a stop off for Bedouin tea (cooked over an open fire) under the mountain with a lovely old Bedouin man (free of charge, and a very authentic and beautiful experience). There’s also plenty of coral around the corner in the other direction (past the port). The reef runs for a few kilometres past all the more modern hotels there.

We thoroughly recommend visits to Tarabin (10 minutes up the road by hotel driver ...Atef took us). A beautiful beachside strip of small shops, restaurants and camps, with incredible coral reefs (we were also taken out in a rowing boat by some local guys fishing for calamari, without charge). Stunning.

I had my birthday at Sayadeen, and the kitchen staff made me a huge cake. The staff all gathered on the beach to sing to me, and we were given complimentary whiskey from the bar. The housekeeping staff also left a lovely card in our room, in which they had even written a very sweet poem for me.

I could go on forever praising this special little place, but I will leave some room for others… Go there, you WILL love it like we did (unless you have no soul and no taste of course). It’s a very special experience, and everything about Sayadeen (the place and the staff) far exceeds anything I had come to expect of holidays in Egypt.

To all at Sayadeen, thank you so much for everything. We really hope to see you again some day soon…

With love, Ross & Katie

Arranged Independently

Journey: Thompson Airlines to Sharm el Sheikh. No leg room so be warned anyone over 6ft. Quckly out of airport because we were independent we joined a non-existent queue for passport control. Minibus to Hotel about 2 hrs.

Stayed for 15 nights. Mostly had the place to ourselves due to political unrest (I assume) which did not in any way shape or form manifest itself in this fairly remote location.

Hotel: artistic and picturesque - very calm/tranquil atmposhere.

Rooms: we had 2 joining rooms where three boys slept in one and parents the other. Each with own bathroom. Rooms are air-conditioned and included kettle and fridge (2 kettles and 2 fridges because of 2 rooms). Staff offered to clean our rooms every day. We went for about every other day and it was always a surprise to find our clean towels shaped into crocs, elephants, swans, hearts.

Room overlooked the sea: beach was about 50% sandy with the rest pebbles. Water clear with an isolated reef that included trigger fish, clown fish, and lion fish amongst its residents.

Beach included a number of bedouin seating arrangements to relax and make use of the shade. There was generally a sea breeze.

Swimming pool: about 17m length, clean and cool. plenty of sun beds, picnic tables and towels available at the bar.

Horse riding : 7-8 horses in stables. One used mostly for tourists to ride. We managed to get about 5 riding lessons in for the kids - from walk through to gallop. Awesome instructor (name:Ritha, he seriously knows horses!). Reasonable cost of £100(EGYPTIAN) per hr. (youtube video sayadeen dancing horse).

Quad Bikes : Did not use but quite a few garaged and ready to use.

Water sports: snorkling, kayak (1 decent kayak @ £100 per hr I think).

Food: Mostly dined at the hotel. Fresh and tasty, mostly chicken, fish, rice, vegetables, soup, fruit. One evening dined at Nuweiba City about 15mins away. (City is an exageration). Once ate at the port 5 mins walk from hotel. Surprised I'm still ok :).

Excursions: Blue Hole near Dahab is amazing for snorkling. Bedouin camp in the desert is relaxing - Chef from the hotel sorted out a lovely B'day cake for our son - really good surprise.

Temperature (Mid April): upper 20s most of the time, cool and possible to walk 5 miles or so without flaking out. Sea & pool temperatures were nice, but you need to move a bit to keep warm.

Conclusion: Great place to relax; very friendly respectful staff; away from touristy areas. Sharm is getting like Costa Del Sol. This feels like Egypt and we felt totally re-charged.

What would we do differently: Go for full board at the hotel; organise transfers by the hotel direct; spend a night in the desert;

Room Tip: Best rooms must be the ones with the sea view.

“Never ever again. They would have to pay me.”

Are there two Sayadeen Villages? I ask because the one being discussed here [by some people] bears no resemblance to the one that i visited.
The rooms ARE filthy. In fact i cleaned my room myself one day. As for the bed/bath linen: i would not put it in my dogs bed. We never saw a 'menu' we were asked what did we want. 'conversation' What do you want? What do you have? This went on until we realised it was a choice between chicken or fish. No starter, no desert. All tea is made with powdered milk, 'nice' No prices are displayed at the bar.
No one has mentioned the MICE. The walls are infested with them.
We were warned not to use the pool by people that had been there a few days.
Be prepared to be ripped off at the 'Duty Free' shop. One of the staff will take you there.
Once again there are no prices. We paid £70 for two slabs of beer and a bottle of Gin.
Forget about going outside the complex: there's NOTHING there.
Only good thing to say: the view. And a very expensive one
So, i ask the question: are there two Sayadeen Villages.

“A 3 star village with 5 star service!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

I must admit, it was with a little trepidation that I agreed to go to a 3 star holiday village in Egypt. Oh no! friends said,' 3 star in Egypt means 1 star, you should upgrade, you will be ill it will be dirty!' The Sayadeen Village is far from this, I have stayed in much worse places in the UK!

We arrived at the Sayadeen Village on the 10th February and had a fantastic welcome from Atef. He informed us that as we are the only guests (due to the trouble in Cairo) we have all of the staff at our service. We dumped out bags in our room and walked over to the restaurant where Yasser (apologies for spelling) had cooked us a lovely meal. We were both thinking it felt a little strange being the only guests but by the next day when we were given a delicious breakfast we decided this is how famous people must live!

The room was clean and comfortable, we had hot water whenever we wanted it and the service was second to none. Despite us being the only people there the staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. In the evening we had some amazing conversations about life, religion. politics and we were lucky enough to be there when the President stepped down. To see the reaction of ordinary people was wonderful, we saw history!

We had a brilliant time, we rested and that was the whole point of the holiday, to re charge our batteries. I don't think it could have been any better and despite the fact that i was the only female there for the week I felt totally at home. We were treated like royalty.

Thank you Atef, Mr Soliman, Mohamed, Yasser, Sammy and Mustafa. You made this a dream holiday for us. We will be back.

Annie and Chris.

If you like sporadic, cold, SALT water showers in a filthy bathroom, and rooms with dodgy electrics (plugs hanging out of walls etc) then this is the hotel for you. Location may be good but standards are not - and general food is poor as well.
