Arranged Independently
Journey: Thompson Airlines to Sharm el Sheikh. No leg room so be warned anyone over 6ft. Quckly out of airport because we were independent we joined a non-existent queue for passport control. Minibus to Hotel about 2 hrs.
Stayed for 15 nights. Mostly had the place to ourselves due to political unrest (I assume) which did not in any way shape or form manifest itself in this fairly remote location.
Hotel: artistic and picturesque - very calm/tranquil atmposhere.
Rooms: we had 2 joining rooms where three boys slept in one and parents the other. Each with own bathroom. Rooms are air-conditioned and included kettle and fridge (2 kettles and 2 fridges because of 2 rooms). Staff offered to clean our rooms every day. We went for about every other day and it was always a surprise to find our clean towels shaped into crocs, elephants, swans, hearts.
Room overlooked the sea: beach was about 50% sandy with the rest pebbles. Water clear with an isolated reef that included trigger fish, clown fish, and lion fish amongst its residents.
Beach included a number of bedouin seating arrangements to relax and make use of the shade. There was generally a sea breeze.
Swimming pool: about 17m length, clean and cool. plenty of sun beds, picnic tables and towels available at the bar.
Horse riding : 7-8 horses in stables. One used mostly for tourists to ride. We managed to get about 5 riding lessons in for the kids - from walk through to gallop. Awesome instructor (name:Ritha, he seriously knows horses!). Reasonable cost of £100(EGYPTIAN) per hr. (youtube video sayadeen dancing horse).
Quad Bikes : Did not use but quite a few garaged and ready to use.
Water sports: snorkling, kayak (1 decent kayak @ £100 per hr I think).
Food: Mostly dined at the hotel. Fresh and tasty, mostly chicken, fish, rice, vegetables, soup, fruit. One evening dined at Nuweiba City about 15mins away. (City is an exageration). Once ate at the port 5 mins walk from hotel. Surprised I'm still ok :).
Excursions: Blue Hole near Dahab is amazing for snorkling. Bedouin camp in the desert is relaxing - Chef from the hotel sorted out a lovely B'day cake for our son - really good surprise.
Temperature (Mid April): upper 20s most of the time, cool and possible to walk 5 miles or so without flaking out. Sea & pool temperatures were nice, but you need to move a bit to keep warm.
Conclusion: Great place to relax; very friendly respectful staff; away from touristy areas. Sharm is getting like Costa Del Sol. This feels like Egypt and we felt totally re-charged.
What would we do differently: Go for full board at the hotel; organise transfers by the hotel direct; spend a night in the desert;
