“Faultless”

Beautiful hotel with helpful friendly staff, good breakfasts, large rooms some with living areas. A small pool was inviting at the end of a hot day wandering the colourful streets of Cartagena. Fantastic location right in the heart of the old town but quiet at night. ATMs within seconds of the hotel for extra security (although to be honest the city felt safe any time of the day). And if you are planning to travel down the coast and come back to stay in Cartagena then the hotel is happy to look after any luggage until your return. Excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Charming Hotel with Friendly Staff”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Alfiz Hotel. The location is very convenient to all of the sights and restaurants in the old city.

Our room was spacious and well appointed. Some reviewers complained about hard beds but my wife, who has a bad back, loved the firm mattress.

The staff couldn't have been friendlier and more helpful. Their restaurant recommendations were terrific. They helped us plan our journey to Mompos.

Breakfast was good - juice, fresh fruit, eggs, bread, and other options.

I highly recommend the Alfiz.

“Contemporary Comforts in a Historical Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

The small, wrought iron "Alfiz" attached to the wall is so subtle a marque that we almost passed by. Located in the heart of the historical city with its twisting streets and hanging balconies, the Alfiz was originally a XVII century colonial house, impeccably restored. Stepping into the reception area, we were transported to a different time and place.

We arrived late at night and were shown to our room. After a hard day’s travel, our sagging spirits soared. The room featured a king-sized bed covered with a lace spread while the lamps, tables and chairs were tasteful antiques. The bath was large; its fixtures and amenities, noteworthy. A small, plant- filled balcony that opened to the street completed the room's landscape. We weren't able to check out other rooms, but the hotel’s website shows a full range of accommodations.

Breakfast was served in an intimate garden setting and consisted of an assortment exotic tropical fruits and juices, a bread basket, hot dishes to order, and delicious Columbian coffee. Other facilities: a library with wi-fi, a reading room, a small sun deck, and a roof-top dipping pool.

The Alfiz is stately and elegant, but never stuffy. Because the friendly staff always treated us with such genuine hospitality, we felt welcome and could easily relax. If ever we return to Cartagena, the Alfiz would be our hotel of choice.

“Good hotel, great situation”

We spent here three wonderful days. Cartagena is a very special place, and if you can, stay in this part of town. The hotel is yet another beautiful colonial one with beautiful furniture but still comfortable. We had a small problem on arrival: our room walls had just been painted (good point, it is well maintained), and it smell and made my eyes itch. They put us temporarily in another room and moved us from second night to the most wonderful room you can imagine. They should have never given us that room, but they compensated by upgrading us for part of our stay. Bathrooms (yes, we saw three of them!) were lots of fun: very big showers with a colonial touch. Breakfast was nice, with different set options that allowed you good variety when staying several days.

Such fun design. My friend and i felt like virginal maidens in our respective twin beds w canopies. The bath area was gorgeous! I could have lived in there! Honestly everything in Cartagena is central and this hotel is no exception. (I stayed Dec 2010)
