My husband and I just returned from a trip to Colombia and we absolutely loved our stay at Casa Boutique Veranera in Cartagena. The staff is excellent (Marilyn, Jose Luis, and Katrina) and so helpful in so many ways - booking restaurants, taxis, and always making sure the guests needs are being met. They always have a smile and pleasant greeting when you arrive and leave and want so much for you to enjoy your stay at the hotel. The hotel offers everything you would want without staying in a big overpriced hotel - location, quiet, hospitable etc.

We spent 4 nights at the Casa Veranera. The service was great and place feels like home. Beautiful house in quiet old town and close to main attractions. The staff is very helpful and very sweet. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the Casa Veranera and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for great experience in Cartagena, Colombia. If you want a quiet get-away, great lcoation and good value, Casa Boutique Veranera is a good choice. This is a very lovely, clean and helpful place. The pool is a great place to cool off. Always clean and cool. The veranda on top of the rooms is a great place to sit in the evenings and catch a breeze. Great location. Nice and quiet. Good library of reference materials for the local area. Suite had mini-bar; kitchen was available to get ice, cold waters, sodas, etc.

When we arrived we were surprised to learn it was the first day of a 4-day carnival. It would have been helpful if Glenda had mentioned this as we would have changed our travel plans to avoid the crowds.

The staff is incredibly helpful but only one spoke any English and when she was not available, our limited Spanish made communication very difficult.

The 'Typical' Columbian breakfast was not very good. It was pre-frozen fried empandas which were greasy. The other breakfast choice was very good and the fruit very fresh.

The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated but I was a little surprised the Suite did not have air conditioning in the sitting area. The constant hot temperatures ruled out the use of that area and we would have been just as comfortable with a less costly regular room.

Casa Veranera is one of the best places to stay in Colombia. The hotel is within reach of all major transportation in Cartagena. Plaza de Diego is very close. There's a great pizza place right across the street (with yummy Napolitan offerings). You will find Casa Veranera on a very quiet street surrounded by private homes and other small hotels. Rooms are comfortable and clean. You'll enjoy the A/C as temperatures are usually hot in Cartagena. Katrina, our host welcomed us with refreshing lemonades. This place feels like home, with a nice indoor patio and ambient music played from I Pods. You will also have an I Pod in your room with preloaded music for your enjoyment. We also liked the bathroom design, although it splashed the floor due to a lack of a full door on the shower. You get to feel like you are showering outside...but don't be scared! It is enclosed but one of the walls is semi open and it faces an exterior brick wall. Beware if you sing in the shower, people downstairs may hear you. The hotel had a few guests checked in when we were there but we never had a chance to see them. Katrina was also helpful suggesting places to go to eat and what to ask for example, when taking a cab, or going to San Felipe and the best route to take. We were very pleased with the service provided from the speedy response to our reservation request to the nice little details such as making sure we got the right taxi to the pier to get to Playa Blanca and making reservations with the boat company. What made us appreciate this place even more was their going the extra mile to serve our needs and making sure our stay was enjoyable. On our way to the airport we realized we had lost an item we bought hours ealier in Cartagena. We called Casa Veranera to find ouy if it was there. They quicky looked around and even called the cab company to determine if we had left it there. Finally, we remembered stopping before at a local restaurant not too far from Casa Veranera. Marylin, our other hostess went there and got it for us. She came to to the airport (not too far) and brought us the bag! We were so grateful! This was another example of our enchantment with the people of Colombia, their friendliness, dedication, warm welcome and great sense of humor. This place is highly recommended!
