You would find the excellent presentation and elegance at this restaurant. Near by the wall and surranded by the most sofisticated women boutiques.
The services is impecable, the food is delicious, the presentation of every dish is unique.
The price is quiet high but it worth it.
Cartagena de Indias is a special place, one of the few South American cities with a preserved city wall, and a beautiful old-town. And this special hotel is among the best in town.
Superbly located, right next to the city wall, restaurants, bars, clubs and the tourist sights. Spacious, well equipped rooms, very well insulated windows (important also to shield the room from outside noise) and a very quiet air-conditioning system. Overall perhaps not quite as chic as the Sofitel, but almost in the same class. And yes, the fitness room, with modern equipment is in what used to be the emporium of the ex church (now used for conferences).
Breakfast was excellent, and lobby is nicely decorated (see pictures).
There are certainly more affordable hotels in Cartagena, but should this happen to be your conference hotel or group travel location, do not say no, and enjoy.
A very nice feature is the pool on the rooftop. It is not very large, but you do have get a very nice view over the old-town roofs an on to some churches and the newer apartment-block area along the coast.
Good: Very beautiful hotel, wonderful location and amazing architecture. The rooms are spacious and very clean, comfortable beds and updated bathrooms. Ambiance is amazing and a great blend of traditional colonial architecture with modern conveniences. Good, but confusing breakfast options.
Bad: A/C was a bit weak(during the day, room got a little warm). Even though the hotel was almost completely empty(only saw at more 2-3 other people at breakfast), they gave us a standard room with absolutely no view(faced another building) when there were plenty of others to upgrade--we felt we should have been upgraded as we stayed for 5 nights paying $300+/night, especially since it was empty. The staff never volunteered speak english as we struggled to translate our needs in spanish(then we found out they were fluent in english). Staff is nice, but never felt they really wanted to help.
Overall, very nice hotel, but felt we had better options once we walked around. We were treated so well at Sofitel even though we were there just to look around and have a drink.
Okay I've been all over Usa, Europe, islands, etc. This is still my favorite hotel. Open air lobby is beautiful! Decor is beautiful! Food was superb! My favorite is that it was so so so clean, everywhere. It was big enough, but felt so intimate. the rooftop pool was perfect. Wow. Highly recommend.
