I stayed here in June of 2011 when I came to Cartagena to learn Spanish. The hotel is located in Bocagrande, the modern section of Cartagena. That is the area of town where the upper middle class and rich Colombians own timeshares and apartments.
The hotel itself is very modern and has EXCELLENT air conditioning systems. That is a huge plus in Cartagena, where the climate is a mix of New Orleans, Atlanta and Miaimi --oppressive. The rooms are nicely furnished and have all the cable channels you can think of. I had a room overlooking the ocean with a balcony. It was great. The staff there cannot do enough for you. They really seem to care about your well being. The location is good, too. I could walk to the beach in about 90 seconds from the front door of the hotel. Great restaurants like Isabellas Cafe and Crepes and Waffles are just down the street. Best of all, this hotel makes getting around easy, because there is always a taxi waiting in front. (To get to the walled city, it is only a six or seven minute cab ride and costs just about US$3.50 one way.) Certainly, there are more luxurious hotels in Cartagena, but you will pay for it dearly. The other thing that needs to be said is that if you are trying to learn Spanish, do not stay in the old city. It is a Gringo Ghetto. Stay here instead and the staff will help you learn Spanish while you help them learn English.
Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ocean.
