“Excellent location and very friendly staff”

I stayed at Zalmedina Hotel located on St Martin Ave in Cartagena, Colombia. I had a wonderful time. THE BEST IS THE STAFF!!!! They are very well trained, polite and ready to help you and go the extra mile for you.
It is a small hotel, but very well located and very clean rooms. The rate includes a very well prepared breakfast with many choices of fruits and juices.
You have free Wi-Fi in your rooms and if it doesn't work for any reason, they allow you to use a courtesy laptop in their conference room.
The rooms are not very spacious and not all of them have ocean view, but HEY!
I recommend it highly.
Hasta la vista, baby!

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms are the best, ask them to give you one with private balcony if they have any avai...

“Great hotel, great staff & great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

I stayed here in June of 2011 when I came to Cartagena to learn Spanish. The hotel is located in Bocagrande, the modern section of Cartagena. That is the area of town where the upper middle class and rich Colombians own timeshares and apartments.
The hotel itself is very modern and has EXCELLENT air conditioning systems. That is a huge plus in Cartagena, where the climate is a mix of New Orleans, Atlanta and Miaimi --oppressive. The rooms are nicely furnished and have all the cable channels you can think of. I had a room overlooking the ocean with a balcony. It was great. The staff there cannot do enough for you. They really seem to care about your well being. The location is good, too. I could walk to the beach in about 90 seconds from the front door of the hotel. Great restaurants like Isabellas Cafe and Crepes and Waffles are just down the street. Best of all, this hotel makes getting around easy, because there is always a taxi waiting in front. (To get to the walled city, it is only a six or seven minute cab ride and costs just about US$3.50 one way.) Certainly, there are more luxurious hotels in Cartagena, but you will pay for it dearly. The other thing that needs to be said is that if you are trying to learn Spanish, do not stay in the old city. It is a Gringo Ghetto. Stay here instead and the staff will help you learn Spanish while you help them learn English.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ocean.

“i loved it and I will be back!”

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. They speak english well and were very patient with my minimal spanish skills. One day I was unfortunately stricken with a horrible stomach ache and the housekeeper was kind and called down to the kitchen and had some carbonated water and lemon juice sent up for me. I saw her the next day in the elevator and she asked me how my stomach was feeling. My room was pristine. The tile floors were beautiful and the bathroom was small but very nice. The hotel has been recently remodeled with tile floors, granite counters and a tiled shower floor to celing. The room had a flat screen TV mounted on the wall and a large wardrobe cupboard with ample room for all of my things. The hotel is located across the street from the beach. It is in the heart of Bocagrande within walking distance to numerous restaurants and shops. I loved being able to walk in any direction to eat or shop or hit the beach. This hotel doe not have a pool which is something I prefer but may not be a priority for everyone since the beach is so close.
