I had booked through a conference which was supposed to have a rate of 94 $US including breakfast. When I arrived at the hotel, they claimed to have lost my reservation, and charged me an outrageous 1596 yen, or 293 $US! Nevermind my lengthy explanations or request that they contact the conference organizers - they insisted on this room rate, even though the hotel is listed in the conference website and accommodation list in the printed materials at the much lower rate. This definitely has the stink of being some kind of scam. I'm working to get the conference organizers to help get my money back, wish me luck!
