My husband and I adopted our daughter from Nanchang, China in March 0f 2010. We met our 11 month old daughter for the first time in this hotel.
This hotel is very nice and much nicer than other hotels in the area. The rooms in China are not large but this one is nice. The bathroom is big and very pretty. The staff was very helpful.
They have a grocery store within walking.

For those with a baby the hotel will provide a crib and stroller.

I stayed at the Galactic Peace Hotel with my two young daughters for six nights. I had been to Nanchang before and stayed in a different hotel that was run down and dirty. The Galactic was wonderfully clean and had plenty of no-smoking sections. The service was excellent and all employees spoke at least some English, although many were more advanced. The western restaurant had a very good breakfast buffet with both Chinese and western choices. The rooms were well equipped and fairly spacious by Chinese standards.

The one downside to this hotel is the location. It is not easy to walk on the streets near it because traffic was dangerous and it was on a very busy street. It was a good hike to any sight seeing destination and shopping, especially with children. However, we took taxis everywhere. The doormen helped explain where we wanted to go and the fares were very, very cheap.

Staying at this hotel was an interesting experience. Located in a rather unattractive area, it lacks the sophistication of some of the hotels in Shanghai or Beijing. However, the staff makes up for it with great service and pleasant attitude. We got a free upgrade to a beautiful, large room, with free and fast internet. Mostly we ate at the hotel, and the food was generally good. Close by there is a KFC, and Wallmart is a walking distance from the establishment.
I did not use the gym, but the pool was nice. There were few things that I found perplexing. First of all, while the pool staff was very concerned about swimmers having their swimming caps on, they allowed a young boy to urinate by the side of the pool. I don't think the staff actually wiped the area. Also, the adults continued to spit into the pool side drains,-in spite of not being forbidden For some strange reason people were swimming in a circle instead of swimming from end to another. Oh well, go figure. When in China...
The moment the yokels, oh sorry, the locals came into the pool we left.
However, regardless of the pool experience, I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay in it again. It was a very positive experience.

I work in Nanchang and needed a place that met my daily needs coming from the US. Nanchang is a very different than living in Shanghai or Beijing. The Galactica is one of only a few hotels that cater to westerners. They have just remodeled the hotel adding a KTV and a very nice massage area that is one of the best in Nanchang. Be careful not to stay in the new part of the hotel on the 5 or 6th floor the night club lifestyle can be loud and it will effect your sleep, 7th floor and above is recommended, the rooms are nice.
The hotel food quality can vary from day to day depends on the menu for that day. The staff is very warm and try to help you with any issue that you have. The one thing they need to change is the workout area is very very small and does not meet the requirements of a 5-star facility. The pool area is nice and you can swim or just relax. I have stayed in Nanchang for over two years and Galactica is one of the bets NAnchang has to offer.
