We just spent 6 nights at the CP Zhengzhou. We were there for an adoption trip. The room was good - always clean sheets, okay amount of space, etc. The breakfast buffet comes with the room, which is good. If you can eat at around 10 a.m. you can be all set for the day. The service is great....everyone is willing to go above and beyond which, for a 3 star hotel, is pretty great.

A few things you need to keep in mind as an American...The beds are harder than you are probably accustomed to. Do not complain...it is a cultural thing. So suck it up. Also, the AC is turned off by September. So you will be stiflingly hot. The Chinese keep their bodies VERY warm - also a cultural thing (I could explain but this is not the place.) So you will be warm. The window opens a bit, so that will help. Also, order a fan. We had two brought up and it made the difference. Also, keep in ind that in mainland industrial China everyone smokes. They smoke in the restaurant, the lobby, the elevator and in the non-smoking rooms. Bring air freshener, but know that your non-smoking room may very well be a smoking room. :)

We stayed six nights here and after the second night I felt I was going to have to go into traction. They like hard beds in Asia so my solution was to order extra pillows and sleep on those. Management said there were no softer beds, next time I will check out the Sofitel or Holiday Inn right behind this hotel.
The other problem is the AC must be preset even though it appears you can change. The room was always warm.
On the upside, the breakfast and lunch buffets were quite good and there is passable pizza in the cafe on the second floor. The room service Club sandwich isn't bad either if you can't face another noodle.

I stayed in the hotel for business and paid around $200. It is a old hotel with poor service and facility. The room I stayed was a model room for remodeling. It did not have a safe and iron board. Stay next door at the Sofitel or Holiday Inn Express. They are much better.

We had reservations at Holiday Inn Zhengzhou, but upon arrival they told us we are "upgraded" to Crowne Plaza next door. Actually we were downgraded to stay at older hotel with no iron and iron board in the room. No decaf coffee in the room and overall you can feel the Hotel does not deserve to be considered a 5 stars hotel when basic things are missing.

The worst is that I made a reservation at Holiday Inn because I did not wanted to stay at Crowne Plaza, but we still ended there. Absolutely amazing and not right.
