The Intercontinental in Huizhou is a newly opened resort, featuring a golf course and Hot Springs. Although the location is terrible if you're looking to do anything outside of the resort and in the city, it does seem like a paradise in the middle of nowhere once you get there; just be prepared for a bumpy road there as the roads are quite rocky!
The rooms are fantastically designed and decorated. There is a large TV which can be swung around to be watched either on the bed or on the couch, free ethernet internet, a balcony and a spacious bathroom. However, the bathroom has a very interesting design where the shutters separating the bathroom from the beds cannot be completely closed, making it potentially awkward for those not travelling as a couple.
As a tourist, I found the dinner buffet first-class for China standards when it came to Western foods. There were wood-fired pizzas (which I highly recommend), an assortment of cold cuts and a wide range of Chinese foods. For the breakfast, there were Hash Browns and Breakfast Sausages which all went down a treat.
The services the Hotel provides are fantastic and mostly free. We used the Snooker tables and Table Tennis where both equipment and room hire did not cost anything.
While I can't recommend this Hotel to new tourists to China due to its remote location and lack of transportation options, it is definitely recommended for a romantic getaway, families, tour groups and tourists who are able to hire/access their own car. It is a fantastic place once you get there.
