“UNABLE TO RE-ENTER MY ROOM AT 11:00 A.M. UNACCEPTABLE”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

The hotel was away from the Huizhou center area. It would took you CNY 300 to get a car there from Huizhou center area or CNY 800 from Shenzhen center area. I check-in to the hotel on Dec 18, and check-out on Dec 19. It takes me 2.5 hours to get there from Shenzhen. I arrived at 2:30 p.m., they said my room was not yet ready, but they agreed to upgrade my room to a high level, which I really appreciated.

Really, there wasn't much you could do there besides the hot spring, they are like building a paradise hotel in the middle of a desert. Once, you get in, you can't get out. I got there by a rented car, it cost me CNY 800 from Shenzhen to Huizhou and another CNY 800 from Huizhou to Shenzhen. I really recommend tourist going there travel in tour or in large groups as transportation was really expensive.

The room was nice however, it would take a 5 minute walk from hotel lobby to my room and it was like walking in a maze. I need to make some right turns and left turns and through some doors before finally gets to my room.

I would not recommend people to go there, not because it was a poor hotel. But, really I have other better choices, I would say the areas beside the hotel (50 KM in radius) is undeveloped, all farm lands, nothing else. The main selling point of this hotel is hot spring. But, I felt it would not justify me to go there again only because of its hot spring, given its poor location and the hotel services standards for this hotel in particular.

Of course, not to mention that the overall service quality did not meet a five star hotel standard (may be China 5 star hotel standard). The staff there is not cheerful, they are polite but they do not have the passion to serve. My door was locked at 11:00 a.m. and I was unable to open the door after breakfast. I use the hotel phone to inform them about the situation, as I was cold standing in front of my hotel door, it was windy. I urge them to get in here immediately, amazingly, the staff took 15 minutes to get here (it takes 5 minutes normal walking time only). The staff told me it might me cause by my mobile phone magnet interfering with the door card causing its malfunction. Since, both of my door card was malfunction, so there definitely was not cause by my mobile, and not to mentioned, I didn't put them together.

After investigation, they told me tonight through e-mail that it was cause by the low battery level of my door. It was so amazing. So, please think twice before you go, you would regret for going there

“A nice weekend getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

We booked this hotel for a quite weekend getaway. We left HK at 8:30 in the morning and we reached the hotel in 3 hours by private car chauffeur(cost HK$1800 per way). The location is quite with a golf course and another spa centre next to the hotel complex. There are plenty of things to do in this hotel. There are many swimming pools: outdoor, indoor and spa pools. As mentioned before, there is a kids play room, snooker room, and table tennis etc. Also mountain bikes can be borrowed. The food overall is 5-star priced but it is good. There was only one local restaurant nearby and we tried that. The food was more value for money and we found the restaurant was quite busy with tour groups. I don't think you need a booking.
The bed is comfortable and the sofa can sleep an extra adult. The bathroom and the shower is good. The only problem we came across was some people talking loudly (like screaming) when passing through the corridor. I hope people can be more considerate.
Overall, we had a nice and relaxing weekend and our kids love the swimming pools.

“Great for family with small kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

We have stayed in InterContinental Huizhou a couple times already and what keeps bringing us back is the natural environment, which is very refreshing. The kids love the outdoor hot springs. There are three temperatures (36C, 38C, 40C, something like that) to choose from so you can swim all year round. The kids club is very big, and the hotel offers free mountain bikes to guests. The room was spacisous and well equipped. The only thing is that choices of restaurants in and out of the hotel are limited, only one Chinese, one Japanese and one International (where breakfast is served). There is one restaurant outside the hotel within walking distance run by locals if one wants to try some Huizhou cuisine. That's about it.

“May give it a second chance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

The below was my e-mail written to IC management in the fit of the moment. I must note that my grievance was rectified in a satisfactory manner as IC waived my 2 nights accommodation charges in full. To be fair, it is very rare for a hotel to refund 100% of accommodation, food, everything – worth about US$1000 just because of a complaint. For this, I may return!

Dear Sir,

It is 6.07a.m in the morning and I am in room 5609 IC Huizhou. I cannot sleep so I thought I drop you a few lines. I congratulate your team and you in bringing out the "natural environment" of Southern China in my 2 days stay:

- 3p.m 9/6 thank you for upgrading me to a 209sqm one-bedroom villa for 6 hours. Unfortunately, the pool was oily with a dead coachroach and cigarettes butt in the pool and a forest of leaves in the smaller pool. It is a health hazzard swimming in it. Perhaps I should write a letter to the Human Rights Commission citing swimming in IC Huizhou pool as a crime against humanity, punishable by life imprisonment

- 8p.m 9/6 had "hainan chicken rice" at the IC cafe. I think staff at IC should wear a helmet. This is because the chicken rice was rock hard and if I have thrown the rice down the cafe, it could have easily killed an employee of yours. Yes, your rice was harder than stone! Clearly, I do not think the 150rmb for the chicken rice could have been justified

- 9p.m 9/6, the villa runs out of water so I was delegated back to the designated room that I paid for. Running out of water? This is the first I have ever experienced in living in any hotels, let alone a villa that on a normal day retail for 4000rmb/night.

- 2a.m 10/6 the air-con was switched off. I understand IC's preach about caring for the environment but this is carrying the preach a bit too far. On a hot summer day and in a 2000rmb/night room, I expect IC Huizhou had the decency in keeping an obese fat boy like myself a bit of cool air to have a decent sleep

- 2p.m 10/6 My friend, Albert Wong in Room 2XXX could not tolerate the heat at IC Huizhou due to its no air-con policy and moved on to Huizhou Kande, for half the price and with decent envioronment polluting air-con. I envy him except that he was charged 300rmb for a 30 minutes ride to Huizhou arranged by your staff. Perhaps the taxi driver was providing a return trip to the moon. 300rmb for 30min ride is way to expensive. How much kickback did your staff actually get from the taxi driver? Can I have a cut?

- 5p.m 10/6 I tried to use the in-room internet to do some work. It took me 36 minutes to download a 1.8mb file. The internet was running slower than my great grandmother walking backwards!

- 1a.m 10/6 I requested for a few coffee bags in my humble room 5609. I was provided with coffee creamer. Perhaps your staff are either visually impaired or illiterate

- 3a.m 10/6 I contemplated calling 110 for an ambulance and blood tranfusion. My body was fully of bullet holes wounds from mosquito bites despite having closed the door. Perhaps I should bring some mosquite coils (heavy duty version) if I ever was to return to IC Huizhou prison.

- 4a.m to now 10/6. The air-con is turned off again when I was assured by a phone call in the afternoon that they will turn the air-con on for 24 hours. With bullet holes mosquito bites and the heat, I can't sleep hence this letter.

With all due respect, IC Huizhou is a DISGRACE to the Intercontinental brand. This appears to be a hotel run by one that does not care, does not bother and does not want to know. You can do better!

I notice unlike all other ICH properties from Crowne Plaza Landmark SZ to ICH Shenzhen, ICH Huizhou does not have provide a feedback form in the room. I now know why!

“Great interior, nice and refreshing surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

In Feb 2011, we celebrated our 2nd anniversary at this hotel. We stayed in their spa suite, which was amazingly roomy and cozy. We have a big balcony with a bath tub (but we didn't use). The view is wide and green in early spring.

Hotel staff are all very polite. Food was good. We played the snooker for free.

One thing that disappointed us is their hot-springs. Too small too few, guests are not even required to clean their body before entering!!! And the result was: we saw a foam of fatty oil on the water surface!!!!!

Oh gee!!!
