I travel to Lanzhou for business and this hotel is convenient to the work site. Other hotels in the center of the city may be better, but the drive to work would be torture. The hotel itself is very dated and in need of renovation. This appears to be taking place in one of the wings of the hotel. I stayed in a Superior room (which is a relative term). It has a nice view if you get in one of the 12th floor room in the "other" wing. The services are basic but adequate (free, slow Internet) and bottled water. Be careful to drink only the two marked as Complimentary. Some, not all, of the rooms have additional bottles in the fridge which cost extra (not really much if you are that thirsty). I could walk to KFC or order from the hotel restaurant menu. The food in Lanzhou in general if very good if you like spicy food. The hotel has at least one English speaking waiter on duty at night so ordering is OK. Jason is the best and he is always friendly and ready to help you with your order.
If you are in Lanzhou to sightsee, this may not be the best location. Although it is right on the river and there is a nice walk along the river, the center city locations probably offer more things to see and do. All in all it is not a bad hotel, just not a great one. Adjust your expectations.
