“Ok at first sight - but terrible experience”

At first this guesthouse seemed to be ok. Cheap and you get what you pay for. Rooms rates are low, though rooms are not clean and the staff was ok friendly on average.
But I got seriously pissed after I returned from a trip to the temples and my wallet which I left in my locked room was missing. The door was still locked and I took the key with me. So sb with a second key (ie the staff) must have got in. Didnt get my money back and of course left this guesthouse immediately. This is trouble one doesnt need while travelling. Wouldnt recommend anybody to stay here.

“Clean, quiet and basic guesthouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2009

We stayed for two nights in this guesthouse. It has no outstanding design or extraordinary staff, but it serves the purpose. It is clean, quiet and only a 5 minutes walk from the old market, which is the city centre. The shower is okay, have seen worst in
Cambodia. As I imagine most of the people come to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat and the other temples and do not spend all day in the guesthouse, this place is enough for sleeping - the mattresses are good. There are two computers for using free internet in the entrance hall.

“A so so little guesthouse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2009

Stayed her for 2 nights visiting Angkor Wat and its wasn't so bad. Maybe it was because of the fact it took me hours to get her from Bangkok so I didn't want to get bothered by looking to different opportunities.
I had a nice room for 8$ here and was overall happy with my small TV and ok shower. The food is indeed really nice in the small restaurant, though they have a bit overpriced beers and softdrinks.
The staff was quite friendly.
Nothing special, but not bad

“I stay there regularly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2009

I work for an NGO that clears landmines in Cambodia. I spend as much as 7 months a year in Siem Reap. I found Green Town through a firend who stays there. I have been staying there on my trips since 2007. Most recently I was there for 8 weeks in January and February, 2009.

The guest house is family owned and a great value for what you get. My room has 2 double beds, AC that will freeze you out if you leave it on high, color TV and a bath. The management changes the sheets and cleans the room on request, since most of the guests stay only a few days.

They have a restaurant on the premises and the food is excellent (try the amok or the pizzas). A cold 'fridge has all the beer or soft drinks you'll ever need as well as different sized bottles of water.

Tere is internet available at from 76am-1pm, but it is painfully slow. There are free wifi spots all over town, but don't try and get on line in the afternoons when all the tourists take a break from the heat and check their emails. Best is to buy a 'ClickNet' card and use the pay service. It's only a dollar an hour and much faster.

It's only a 10 minute walk from downtown, and a beautiful one at that. The location is just off the river road. It's very quiet and comfortable.

Green Town can arrange visas, tours, buses etc. Just ask Ming at the front desk.

I've stayed as long as 10 weeks, and didn't need to pay 'til Ieft, but watch your bill. With the restaurant and beer it can creep up on you.

I've traveled around the worl and stayed in $500 a nite hotels and $2 a nite hovels. Green Town is a great value for your money. Rooms range anywhere from under $5 to abut $15, depending on whether you want hot water and AC. AC is always best in Cambodia, especially in Feb-May.

A great place to stay. Highly recommended. I will be back in May.

“Good choice for Siem Reap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2008

After spending many hours on the bus from Bangkok, the Cambodian guy on the bus recommended this place. He was obviously in cahoots with the guys there because I saw him a few more times and I suspected this when I arrived.

But when the bus stopped we were allowed to look around and were impressed. After a few Khao San Road flea pits, this place was actually not bad at all. I was shown a twin for $12, which I knew was at the high end for a Siem Reap guesthouse, but went for the room anyway. I didn’t even need the air con (end of Oct), but went for the peace of mind of having it anyway.

The room was light and airy, clean with a TV and good air con. My room had 2 large and comfy beds. But the toilet wouldn’t flush and the remote for the TV was lost. But this is Cambodia so I didn’t worry too much.

The guesthouse itself is clean, and the building is quite beautiful compared to some of its surroundings. It is well located, close to the town center and an Internet shop.

The staff are very accommodating, friendly and helpful. It seems to be mostly run by quite young Cambodian men, they are more than happy to give you any kind of information you need. They are also very likely to keep you supplied with cold Angkor beer which is dangerous because they keep a note of everything and you pay for it all at the end! Sometimes you don’t realise how much you have drunk and eaten until you go and check your bill book.

This place feels very safe, and the food is good, also exceptional value. Also it is very quiet. The staff will arrange visas or onward travel for you, and have tuk-tuk drivers to take you around the temples all day, but be careful as some try and charge $20 per day when the actual price should be more like $10 (while you are looking around they just sleep).

Even though there are cheaper places in Siem Reap (many of them hell-holes), you can bank on this place. Comfortable, good value, very friendly and quiet, with an excellent location.

  • Liked — Staff, location and food.
  • Disliked — Nothing (although a little pricier than nearby guesthouses)
