“Good choice for Siem Reap”

After spending many hours on the bus from Bangkok, the Cambodian guy on the bus recommended this place. He was obviously in cahoots with the guys there because I saw him a few more times and I suspected this when I arrived.

But when the bus stopped we were allowed to look around and were impressed. After a few Khao San Road flea pits, this place was actually not bad at all. I was shown a twin for $12, which I knew was at the high end for a Siem Reap guesthouse, but went for the room anyway. I didn’t even need the air con (end of Oct), but went for the peace of mind of having it anyway.

The room was light and airy, clean with a TV and good air con. My room had 2 large and comfy beds. But the toilet wouldn’t flush and the remote for the TV was lost. But this is Cambodia so I didn’t worry too much.

The guesthouse itself is clean, and the building is quite beautiful compared to some of its surroundings. It is well located, close to the town center and an Internet shop.

The staff are very accommodating, friendly and helpful. It seems to be mostly run by quite young Cambodian men, they are more than happy to give you any kind of information you need. They are also very likely to keep you supplied with cold Angkor beer which is dangerous because they keep a note of everything and you pay for it all at the end! Sometimes you don’t realise how much you have drunk and eaten until you go and check your bill book.

This place feels very safe, and the food is good, also exceptional value. Also it is very quiet. The staff will arrange visas or onward travel for you, and have tuk-tuk drivers to take you around the temples all day, but be careful as some try and charge $20 per day when the actual price should be more like $10 (while you are looking around they just sleep).

Even though there are cheaper places in Siem Reap (many of them hell-holes), you can bank on this place. Comfortable, good value, very friendly and quiet, with an excellent location.
