I stayed at the Monsoon Bed and Breakfast in Siem Reap for 5 days a few weeks ago, and it was an excellent choice. We wanted a place that was away from all of the commercialism and gaudiness that has cropped up in this area. The Monsoon was perfect! Jerry and Thina are wonderful hosts, and staying at a homestay instead of a hotel gives one the opportunity to learn so much more. The rooms are very comfortable, and the breakfasts were huge and fantastic!
We also had a driver, Mr. C., who Jerry arranged for us. I would highly recommend using him because his English is quite good and his rates are reasonable. Mr. C. was extremely patient with everything that we wanted to do, (sometimes returning to the same place multiple times) and gave us additional insights into the Cambodian culture. He was also able to take us to places outside of the tour bus crowds as much as possible.
If you are going to Siem Reap and want to stay somewhere wonderful but under-the-radar, then you should definitely stay at Monsoon!
